What tactic does Satan use to try to turn us away from Jehovah?

Answer 1: Satan tries to plant doubts in us so that we think Jehovah and Jesus do not love us. If he succeeded in turning us away from them, we would lose the support we need to stand firm.

Answer 2: The Devil knows that he cannot defeat us as long as we trust in Jehovah. That is why he tries to attack our trust, not always directly, but by means of doubts that may seem reasonable.

Answer 3: When a doubt about Jehovah’s love arises, it is good to recognize where that idea may come from. Instead of feeding it, we can seek his guidance and remember the evidence of his love.

2. Why is it important that we fully trust in Jehovah and Jesus?

Answer 1: Because we are fighting against wicked spirit forces. Just as a soldier needs to trust his leaders, we need to seek the guidance and support of Jehovah and Jesus.

Answer 2: If we lost trust in Jehovah and Jesus, we might begin to act on our own. Satan wants precisely that—to make us stop depending on their direction.

Answer 3: Fully trusting in Jehovah and Jesus protects us from making decisions guided by fear, pressure, or our own reasoning. Their guidance is always safe.

3. How did Satan weaken Eve’s trust in Jehovah?

Answer 1: Satan presented the limits Jehovah had set as if they were too strict. In this way, he tried to convince Eve that Jehovah did not want what was best for her.

Answer 2: His question caused Eve to doubt Jehovah’s goodness. He did not merely attack a command; he attacked Eve’s trust in the Person who had given that command.

Answer 3: This tactic is still dangerous. When someone presents Jehovah’s standards as a burden, we should remember that they come from a Father who wants what is best for us.

4. What lies about Jehovah did Satan spread in Job’s time?

Job 22:1-3 — Eliphaz the Temanite said in reply: “Can a man be of use to God? His example shows that trials do not mean that Jehovah has stopped valuing our faithfulness.

Answer 3: Satan wanted Job to think that serving Jehovah was pointless. We can reject that lie by remembering that our friendship with Jehovah is precious even during difficult times.

5. What did Satan do to try to prevent people from following Jesus? (Matthew 11:19)

Matthew 11:19 — The Son of man did come eating and drinking, but people say, ‘Look! A man who is a glutton and is given to drinking wine, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ All the same, wisdom is proved righteous by its works.”

Answer 1: Satan used those who hated Jesus to spread false accusations about him. They criticized him for associating with people of bad reputation, even though Jesus was helping them.

Answer 2: He also used the religious leaders to discredit Jesus and keep people from following him. I have not come of my own initiative, but that One sent me. Why do you not understand what I am saying? Because you cannot listen to my word. You are from your father the Devil, and you wish to do the desires of your father. That one was a murderer when he began, and he did not stand fast in the truth, because truth is not in him. When he speaks the lie, he speaks according to his own disposition, because he is a liar and the father of the lie. Because I, on the other hand, tell you the truth, you do not believe me.

Answer 3: Jesus told the truth, but his opposers did not want to accept it. This teaches us not to let accusations or false opinions draw us away from Christ.

6, 7. In what ways did Satan attack Jesus’ first disciples?

Answer 1: First, he circulated the false rumor that the disciples had taken Jesus’ body. In this way, he tried to prevent people from believing in Christ’s resurrection.

Answer 2: Then he launched persecution against Christians. His objective was to frighten them into thinking that the preaching work was too difficult and into giving up.

Answer 3: The lies and persecution were intended to discourage the disciples. But opposition did not prove that Jesus had abandoned them; it gave them the opportunity to remain faithful.

8. How does Satan hide the truth about Jehovah and Jesus?

John 8:44 — You are from your father the Devil, and you wish to do the desires of your father. When he speaks the lie, he speaks according to his own disposition, because he is a liar and the father of the lie.

Answer 1: Satan, the father of the lie, uses false religions to spread false ideas about Jehovah and Jesus. In this way, he tries to hide the truth about both of them.

Answer 2: One of these false teachings confuses the Father with the Son. As a result, many people know Jesus’ name but do not come to know or worship Jehovah.

John 4:23 — Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshippers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for indeed, the Father is looking for ones like these to worship him.

Answer 3: Jesus made clear that true worshippers worship the Father. Being clear about the difference between Jehovah and his Son helps us respectfully defend Bible truth.

9. How has Satan used false religions to keep people from knowing Jehovah? (Jeremiah 23:26, 27)

Jeremiah 23:26-27 — How long will this continue in the heart of the prophets, to prophesy lies? They intend to make my people forget my name by the dreams they relate to one another, just as their fathers forgot my name because of Baal.

Answer 1: Satan has used false religions to make people forget Jehovah’s name. That name has even been removed from many Bible translations.

Answer 2: He has also spread the lie that Jehovah causes suffering. That is why we value the Bible’s clear revelation of his name.

10. What could cause us to become angry with Jehovah?

Answer 1: Difficult situations, especially when they last a long time, could make us think that Jehovah does not care about what is happening to us. Satan hopes that this idea will make us angry with God.

Answer 2: We might begin to wonder what the point is of obeying Jehovah’s standards. Rather, we need to keep seeking his support and protect our friendship with him.

11. We do well to examine what we watch and not allow it to weaken our trust in Jehovah.

12. Why should we not pay attention to the ideas Satan spreads?

Answer 1: Because those ideas can gradually draw us away from Jehovah. The effect may not be immediate, but they can change the way we view what is right and what is wrong.

Answer 2: Shannon’s experience shows that ideas learned in class, bad associations, and social media can influence our desires and conduct.

Answer 3: It is not enough to think that an influence will not affect us. We are wise to watch what we listen to, watch, and accept, because we want to protect our friendship with Jehovah.

13. What does Shannon’s experience teach you?

Answer 1: It teaches me that if we notice that certain influences are drawing us away from Jehovah, we must make determined changes. What will help us identify and reject Satan’s lies? (See also the picture.)

Answer 1: Studying the Bible and our publications and spending time with mature Christians will help us. A half-truth can be as dangerous as an outright lie.

Answer 3: The picture highlights good ways to stay close to Jehovah: meditating during personal study, enjoying wholesome association, preaching, and accepting encouragement from the brothers.

15. What will help us trust more fully that Jehovah and Jesus care about us?

Answer 1: Carefully studying the Bible increases our trust. His sacrifice convinces us that he has a personal interest in us.

16. Why is it good for us to meditate on how Jehovah has helped us and other brothers? (Psalm 118:5, 6)

Answer 1: Remembering occasions when we felt that Jehovah was at our side strengthens our trust. Such memories especially help us when we face new difficulties.

Answer 2: We are also encouraged when we hear how other brothers have seen Jehovah’s hand in their lives.
