Some problems do not go away after a good night\u2019s sleep. When we wake up, they are still there, and we may wonder where we will find the strength for another day. Feeling that tired does not mean that we lack faith. But we need reasons to keep going. In Lamentations, we find three ideas that complement one another: appreciating what Jehovah has already done, trusting that he will continue to be at our side, and waiting patiently.<\/p>
When a difficulty fills our thoughts, we may stop seeing everything else. The pain is real, and we do not have to deny it. However, neither do we want it to prevent us from recognizing Jehovah\u2019s expressions of love. Gratefully reflecting on what he has done for us can give us strength to face what has not yet been resolved. Let us listen to the reason given at Lamentations 3:22.<\/p>
Lamentations 3:22<\/strong> \u2014 It is because of Jehovah\u2019s loyal love that we have not come to our finish, For his mercies never end.<\/em><\/p> The text does not say that Jehovah\u2019s servants do not suffer. It highlights that his loyal love and mercy sustain them. That difference is important. If we measured Jehovah\u2019s love only by the absence of problems, we might reach the wrong conclusion. Instead, we can ask ourselves: \u201cIn the midst of this difficulty, how has Jehovah helped me to keep going? What expressions of his care have I received?\u201d<\/p> Think of Rachel. During the COVID-19 pandemic, her husband abandoned both her and Jehovah. She was devastated. How did she receive help? Many friends spent time with her, brought her food, and sent her loving messages and encouraging texts. Through their smiles and companionship, they reminded her that Jehovah cared for her. Rachel repeatedly thanked Jehovah for that large and loving family.<\/p> Rachel\u2019s friends could not undo what had happened. But their love helped her feel loved in a very painful situation. We too can appreciate forms of help that at first may seem small: a phone call, a meal, or some companionship. The fact that the problem continues does not make them less valuable. Accepting such support is not a sign of weakness; it can help us endure.<\/p> We could take a moment to remember a specific way we have received help and thank Jehovah for it. Perhaps we can also thank the person who offered it. In this way, our attention does not remain focused only on what hurts us. Remembering how Jehovah has sustained us strengthens our trust. But a question arises: Can we also count on his support tomorrow? The next verse answers us.<\/p> At times, it is not only the current problem that exhausts us but also imagining how long it might last. Perhaps we think: \u201cI can endure for now, but what if this continues for months?\u201d We do not know all the details of what lies ahead. However, we can know a quality of Jehovah that enables us to look to the future with confidence. Notice what Lamentations 3:23 says about him.<\/p> Lamentations 3:23<\/strong> \u2014 They are new each morning; your faithfulness is abundant.<\/em><\/p> Jehovah\u2019s expressions of mercy are not merely a memory of the past. His faithfulness assures us that we can continue to rely on him. This does not mean that a difficulty will disappear every morning or that we will receive exactly the help we imagine. It means that Jehovah does not cease to be faithful when our situation changes. The God whose love we appreciated yesterday is still worthy of our trust today.<\/p> How can that confidence affect the way we face each day? Think of someone receiving medical treatment. In addition to present discomfort, that person might feel overwhelmed by everything he fears may happen later. It would not be realistic to tell him simply to stop thinking about it. But Jesus\u2019 counsel about anxieties can help him. Let us read his words at Matthew 6:34.<\/p> Matthew 6:34<\/strong> \u2014 So never be anxious about the next day, for the next day will have its own anxieties. Each day has enough of its own troubles.<\/em><\/p> Jesus acknowledges that each day has its problems. He does not ask us to ignore them or to stop making necessary plans. He teaches us not to add all of tomorrow\u2019s anxieties to today\u2019s burdens. In the case of an illness, we can focus on what needs to be done today: receive treatment, rest, and ask for help. We do not need to mentally solve the entire future this morning.<\/p> When anxiety returns, we can ask ourselves: \u201cWhat do I need to attend to today? What can I leave until the time comes?\u201d Then let us talk to Jehovah about our specific fears. Trusting in his faithfulness helps us live one day at a time, without demanding of ourselves strength for difficulties that have not yet arrived. Still, if the problem persists, that trust will need to be accompanied by another quality: patience.<\/p> Waiting is not always easy, especially when we have already prayed many times about the same matter. We may feel that the answer is taking too long. How can we keep that feeling from weakening our faith? We need to remember in whom we have placed our hope. Our confidence does not depend on a personal timetable being fulfilled but on our relationship with Jehovah. Let us read how the writer of Lamentations 3:24 expresses that confidence.<\/p> Lamentations 3:24<\/strong> \u2014 \u201cJehovah is my share,\u201d I have said, \u201cthat is why I will show a waiting attitude for him.\u201d<\/em><\/p> The writer considers Jehovah his most valuable possession, the basis of his hope. That is why he can wait patiently. We too have reasons to do so: Jehovah will give us many blessings through his Kingdom. The end of our problems does not depend on our desires or calculations. It depends on him. The fact that we are still waiting does not mean that he has forgotten us or his promises.<\/p> While we wait, let us continue praying to him in faith. Jehovah pays close attention to our prayers and views them as evidence of our trust in him. We can tell him that we are tired, that we are afraid, or that we find it difficult to be patient. We do not have to hide what is happening to us. Even if the answer does not come when we would like it to, continuing to speak with our heavenly Father shows that we have not stopped trusting him.<\/p> In addition, waiting patiently does not mean sitting idly by. We want to act in harmony with what we ask for. If we are struggling with a bad habit or a weakness, we will continue making efforts to overcome it while seeking Jehovah\u2019s help. If we need support to endure a trial, let us be willing to accept it. Prayer and actions that agree with it show that we desire to continue doing his will.<\/p> Many have spent years praying for God\u2019s Kingdom to come and bring an end to this system. Let us not allow the passing of time to cause us to lose faith. Jehovah has set the proper time to act, and that will be the best time. In the meantime, we can ask ourselves: \u201cDo I continue seeking Jehovah in prayer? Do my decisions show that I trust him?\u201d Waiting can be difficult, but we do not have to face it while separated from our Father.<\/p> When we have problems, let us not give up. Let us gratefully remember how Jehovah has helped us. Let us face today with confidence that he will continue to be at our side. And let us wait patiently, continuing to pray to him in faith. Perhaps tomorrow the problem will still be there, but we will also be able to continue relying on Jehovah\u2019s loyal love.
