Ezekiel 5:11<\/strong> \u2014 \u201c\u2018Therefore as surely as I am alive,\u2019 declares the Sovereign Lord Jehovah, \u2018because it was my sanctuary that you defiled with all your disgusting idols and with all your detestable practices, I will also reject you; my eye will not feel sorry, and I will show no compassion.<\/em>

It is sobering to think that a city of such importance could lose what seemed to give it security. This reminds me how fragile it is to place all my trust in visible things, such as possessions or social position. Ezekiel 6:3<\/strong> \u2014 You must say, \u2018O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah: This is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah says to the mountains, to the hills, to the streams, and to the valleys: \u201cLook! I will bring a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places.<\/em>

The natural surroundings did not make the worship practiced there acceptable. Ezekiel 6:8<\/strong> \u2014 \u201c\u2018\u201cBut I will leave a remnant, for some of you will escape the sword among the nations when you are scattered throughout the lands.<\/em>

Comment 7:<\/strong> In the midst of such a serious prophecy, Ezekiel 6:8 announces that Jehovah would leave a remnant. Some would escape the sword. This detail helps me read the account with balance: I should not overlook the seriousness of the judgment, but neither should I overlook Jehovah\u2019s decision to preserve survivors. When studying difficult passages, I want to pay attention to every detail. In this way, I avoid forming an incomplete picture of Jehovah based only on the aspects that impress me most.<\/p>

Ezekiel 6:9<\/strong> \u2014 And those who escape will remember me among the nations where they are taken captive. They will realize that I was brokenhearted over their unfaithful heart that turned away from me and at their eyes that are lusting after their disgusting idols. They will be ashamed of and loathe all the evil and detestable things they have done.<\/em>

Comment 8:<\/strong> Ezekiel 6:9 moves me because Jehovah explains that his people\u2019s unfaithfulness caused him great pain. Sin was not merely a failure to keep a rule; it damaged their relationship with him. The survivors would come to hate what they had done. This helps me understand that repentance involves more than regretting the consequences. I need to think about how my conduct affects Jehovah and learn to reject what is bad because I value my friendship with him.<\/p>

Ezekiel 6:10<\/strong> \u2014 They will have to know that I am Jehovah and that my threats to bring this calamity on them were not empty.\u201d\u2019<\/em>

Ezekiel 6:14<\/strong> \u2014 I will stretch out my hand against them and make the land desolate, and all their dwelling places will become more desolate than the wilderness near Diblah. And they will have to know that I am Jehovah.\u2019\u201d<\/em>
