What does the book of Ezekiel teach us about Jehovah’s name?

Ezekiel 36:22 — “Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah says: “Not for your sakes am I acting, O house of Israel, but for my holy name, which you profaned among the nations where you have gone.”’

Comment 1: This passage shows that Jehovah acted to sanctify his name, not because the Israelites deserved it. The most important thing was to clear his reputation of the lies that had been told about him. This helps us understand that the sanctification of his name is more important than our personal interests.

Comment 2: I am struck by how much Ezekiel emphasizes Jehovah’s sovereignty. He uses the expression Sovereign Lord Jehovah more than 200 times. It is not enough to know God’s name; we must also recognize his authority. The events that Ezekiel foretold would prove that Jehovah fulfills both his warnings and his promises.

Comment 3: The sanctification of Jehovah’s name is also related to our happiness. The book explains that when Jehovah rewards his servants, they will understand even more clearly that he fulfills his promises. So defending his good name does not deprive us of anything good; it is linked to our hope of living in peace.

3. What does the book of Ezekiel say about the promised Messiah?

Comment 1: Ezekiel foretold that the Messiah would be a descendant of David and would have the right to occupy his throne. Although that throne would remain vacant for a very long time, Jehovah had not forgotten his promise. Jesus fulfilled that prophecy. This strengthens our confidence in Jehovah, even when the fulfillment of a promise requires us to wait.

Comment 2: Another prophecy presents the Messiah as the shepherd whom Jehovah would appoint over his sheep. The paragraph connects that promise with Jesus, a descendant of David. So he is not merely someone with authority to rule. He is also someone who feeds and cares for those whom Jehovah has entrusted to his care.

Comment 3: It is interesting to compare Ezekiel with Luke and John. Luke confirms that Jesus would receive the throne of David, and John shows his willingness to give his life for the sheep. The two ideas complement each other: Jesus has the right to rule and has shown how much he loves those under his care.

4. What do Ezekiel’s visions teach us about the heavenly part of Jehovah’s organization?

Comment 1: The celestial chariot that Ezekiel saw shows that the heavenly part of Jehovah’s organization is awe-inspiring and very well organized. The vision allows us to appreciate something we cannot see with our eyes: in the heavens there is an organization acting under Jehovah’s authority.

Comment 2: The visions also help us learn something about the activity of the angels, especially the cherubs. Ezekiel did not merely see an impressive chariot; Jehovah showed him these spirit creatures in action. This broadens our perspective and reminds us that worship of Jehovah is not limited to the earth.

Comment 3: I am grateful that Jehovah allowed these visions to be recorded. Although they let us see only a small part of what takes place in the heavens, they help us get to know his organization better. When reading them, we can focus on what they clearly teach about his greatness and order, without speculating about every detail.

5. What does the book of Ezekiel teach us about Jehovah?

Comment 1: It teaches us that Jehovah is merciful without overlooking disobedience. He had reason to be indignant with the Jews, but he first warned them and offered them forgiveness if they repented. His way of acting shows that he did not want to punish them without giving them the opportunity to change.

Comment 2: Jehovah did not stop caring for his people when he disciplined them. Although he allowed the exile, he promised to punish the nations that mistreated the Jews. This helps us not to confuse discipline with a lack of love. Jehovah could correct his people and at the same time continue to care about them.

Comment 3: I am encouraged that Jehovah spoke not only about the consequences of sins but also about a better future. He promised that the Jews would return to Jerusalem and receive blessings. This combination of warnings and hope teaches us to view Jehovah as a Father who corrects but also helps his children recover.

6. What important lessons do we find in the book of Ezekiel?

Comment 1: One lesson is that each person is accountable to Jehovah for his own actions. We cannot assume that our relationship with him depends on what our relatives or those around us do. This motivates us to examine our decisions and personally accept responsibility for obeying him.

Comment 2: We also learn that our conduct affects Jehovah and his reputation. Ezekiel explains that the Israelites’ unfaithfulness caused him pain. Therefore, when making a decision, it is good to think not only about its consequences for us but also about how it will make Jehovah feel and what impression it will give others of him.

Comment 3: Our life depends on respecting Jehovah’s name and giving him pure worship. It is not enough simply to say that we believe in him. The book connects Jehovah’s approval with righteous conduct. The application is clear: our worship must be reflected in what we do each day.

7. What do we know about the prophet Ezekiel?

Comment 1: Ezekiel was the son of a priest who served in Jerusalem, and his name means “God Strengthens.” He may have been born around 643 B.C.E. These details help us place him in history, although the material presents his birth date as approximate, not as a certain fact.

Comment 2: He was taken to Babylon in 617 B.C.E., when he would have been about 26 years old. About four years later, Jehovah appointed him as a prophet. So Ezekiel was not speaking about the exile from a distance—he himself was living among the Jews who had been taken to Babylon.

Comment 3: Ezekiel was a contemporary of Jeremiah, Daniel, and Obadiah. Jeremiah served in Judah, while Daniel and Ezekiel were in Babylon. Knowing this helps us connect their messages. Jehovah was giving warnings and guidance through different prophets, and the book of Ezekiel complements what we find in other books from that period.

8. To whom were Ezekiel’s prophecies directed?

Comment 1: They were directed to the Jews exiled in Babylon. Some, like Ezekiel, had arrived before the destruction of Jerusalem; others arrived afterward. Keeping this audience in mind helps us understand why the book speaks so much about Jerusalem’s situation as well as the hope of returning to their land.

Comment 2: The recipients were going through difficult circumstances. The box explains that the Babylonians mocked them and that returning could have seemed impossible, because Babylon did not release its prisoners. In that context, Jehovah’s promises were very valuable: They gave them reasons to look to the future without depending on human possibilities.

Comment 3: Although they were exiled, faithful Jews could gather to read the Scriptures and worship Jehovah. So living far from Jerusalem did not mean that it was impossible to maintain a good relationship with him. The context encourages us to take advantage of opportunities to receive spiritual food, even when our circumstances are difficult.

9. What did Jehovah want the Jews in Babylon to understand?

Comment 1: He wanted them to understand why they were in exile and to accept his discipline. Their apostate practices had stained Jehovah’s name. It was not enough to mourn the loss of their land; they had to acknowledge their responsibility and understand that Jehovah deserved obedience and worship that was in harmony with his will.

Comment 2: The change in Ezekiel’s message is significant. Before the destruction of Jerusalem, he announced condemnation for the horrible things being done there. Afterward, he conveyed hope. Jehovah was helping his people face reality, but he was also showing them that there could be a future after the discipline.

Comment 3: Not everyone reacted in the same way: Some mocked Ezekiel, while others believed him. This invites us to think about our reaction when we receive Bible-based correction. Rather than rejecting it because it is uncomfortable, we can ask ourselves what needs to change in us. Accepting discipline begins with listening humbly.

10. How is the book of Ezekiel organized?

Comment 1: The book follows a largely chronological order and is also organized by subject. After Ezekiel’s appointment, it presents three major groups of prophecies: the destruction of Jerusalem, the condemnation of neighboring nations, and the restoration of Israel. This simple outline helps us find our way when we read it.

Comment 2: Ezekiel indicated the year, month, and day of many of his prophecies. He used as his starting point the year when King Jehoiachin was taken into exile. Thanks to those dates, we can relate the messages to the events and distinguish the warnings given beforehand from the words of hope that followed.

Comment 3: The organization of the book allows us to see that it contains more than announcements of punishment. Its final major section deals with the restoration of Israel. That is why it is good to read each passage in its context. In this way, we appreciate both Jehovah’s justice and the hope he offered his people.

11. What things did Jehovah ask Ezekiel to do, and why?

Comment 1: Jehovah asked him to act out several messages. For example, he had to lie on his side with a brick in front of him and shave his head and beard. Those actions may have seemed strange, but they had a purpose: to awaken the interest of the exiles so that they would pay attention to the meaning of the message.

Comment 2: He also had to prepare his baggage and carry it out of the city, and on another occasion he had to take two sticks and join them together. Jehovah did not communicate all his messages in the same way. These enactments made the prophecies visible and gave observers reasons to become interested in what Ezekiel was announcing.

Comment 3: Ezekiel’s example highlights the importance of obeying, even when an assignment seems unusual or difficult. He did what Jehovah commanded him. We do not have to act out those prophecies, but we can imitate his willingness to put Jehovah’s will above our own comfort.

12. What does Ezekiel see before Jehovah appoints him as a prophet?

Comment 1: Ezekiel sees the heavens open and receives visions from God. Among other things, he observes impressive living creatures that are later identified as cherubs. Thus, his appointment as a prophet was preceded by a vision that enabled him to appreciate something of the greatness of the heavenly part of Jehovah’s organization.

Comment 2: In addition to the cherubs, he sees a celestial chariot and a radiance associated with Jehovah’s glory. The account speaks of a vision, not of Ezekiel’s literally seeing God. That detail helps us describe carefully what he observed, without going beyond what the material explains.

Comment 3: After that vision, Jehovah appoints him as a prophet and a watchman. The assignment required him to deliver the warning, even if people did not want to listen. The order of the account is important: First, Jehovah’s glory is highlighted, and then Ezekiel’s responsibility to faithfully communicate the message he would receive from Him is presented.

13. What prophecies does Ezekiel act out?

Comment 1: Ezekiel portrays the siege of Jerusalem. Box 26A relates this prophecy to the time when the Babylonians besieged the city. The portrayal was not simply an illustration of something that might happen; it conveyed a warning from Jehovah that later had a specific fulfillment.

Comment 2: He also acts out the famine that the inhabitants of Jerusalem would experience. The box connects that warning with the account in Second Kings about the lack of food during the siege. Comparing the prophecy with its fulfillment enables us to verify that Jehovah’s warnings were not unfounded threats.

Comment 3: Jehovah commands him to shave his head and beard and tells him what to do with the hair. That portrayal shows what would happen to the inhabitants when Jerusalem was destroyed. Later, Ezekiel prophesies against idolatry. The scenes should be understood within that context of disobedience and judgment.

14, 15. What does Jehovah foretell about Jerusalem?

Comment 1: Jehovah foretells that he will punish Jerusalem for the detestable practices carried out there. In the vision, a man marks those who sigh and groan over that situation, and afterward those who do not have the mark are executed. The vision highlights that one’s attitude toward wickedness mattered to Jehovah.

Comment 2: Ezekiel also portrays the exile and announces that Jerusalem will be destroyed. The false prophets could not prevent that outcome with their messages. This teaches us not to confuse a reassuring statement with a promise from Jehovah. What mattered was what God had said, not what some people wanted to hear.

Comment 3: Even amid those warnings, Jehovah announced that some exiles would return to Jerusalem. The judgment against the city did not mean that all hope had disappeared. That detail enables us to appreciate the balance of the message: Jehovah would not minimize wickedness, but neither had he forgotten his purpose to restore his people.

16-18. What comparisons does Jehovah use?

Comment 1: Jehovah compares Jerusalem to a useless vine that is fit only for firewood and to a very beloved wife who becomes unfaithful. Both images show the seriousness of what happened. The city was not fulfilling what Jehovah expected, and its inhabitants had responded to his love with unfaithfulness.

Comment 2: He also compares Samaria and Jerusalem to two sisters who prostitute themselves. Samaria had already been destroyed, but Jerusalem had not learned from what happened. The comparison reminds us that knowing the consequences of disobedience is not enough. We must allow warning examples to truly influence our conduct.

Comment 3: Zedekiah is represented by a vine that will dry up, and Jerusalem is compared to a rusty cooking pot that must be put into the fire. These are strong images that communicate a sure judgment. Nevertheless, the same context preserves hope: Jehovah would judge individuals and, in time, give the kingdom to the promised Messiah.

19, 20. What nations does Jehovah condemn, and why?

Comment 1: Jehovah condemns Ammon, Moab, Edom, and Philistia, and he also announces judgments against Tyre and Sidon. The context highlights that the nations had rejoiced over Jerusalem’s fall. Jehovah’s disciplining his people did not give others the right to treat them with hatred or celebrate their suffering.

Comment 2: Chapters 29 through 32 contain messages against Egypt. Jehovah announces that Babylon will invade that country. Thus, the book does not present Jehovah as a God who can judge only within Israel. His messages against other nations show that they too had to answer to him.

Comment 3: One application is that we should never rejoice over another person’s suffering. The condemned nations had reacted wrongly to Jerusalem’s fall. Instead of imitating that attitude, we want to cultivate respect for Jehovah’s judgments and compassion for those who are going through difficulties, without justifying whatever wrong they may have done.

21, 22. What positive things does Ezekiel prophesy for the Israelites?

Comment 1: Jehovah promises to personally care for his sheep and to place over them the shepherd he had announced. This contrasts with Israel’s false shepherds, against whom he was indignant. The Israelites could have hope because their well-being would not remain forever in the hands of those who had neglected them.

Comment 2: Ezekiel announces that the Jews will return to their land. The vision of the bones coming back to life conveys a powerful hope of restoration. Although the destruction of Jerusalem was a painful reality, Jehovah could, so to speak, bring back to life a nation that seemed to have lost its future.

Comment 3: When Ezekiel joins two sticks together, he represents the future union of the two kingdoms. Judah and Israel would once again become one nation. Therefore, the restoration would not consist merely of returning to a territory. Jehovah also promised to reunite his people, leaving behind the division that had existed among them.

23, 24. What will Jehovah do when Gog attacks his people, and what vision does Ezekiel have?

Comment 1: When Gog attacks, Jehovah will defend his people and bring Gog and his army to an end. The prophecy does not focus on the people’s ability to defend themselves but on what Jehovah will do. This helps us base our security on him and not on human forces.

Comment 2: Ezekiel sees an immense temple and an angel measuring its various parts. Jehovah’s glory fills the temple, and the prophet receives instructions related to worship. The material explains that this vision highlights Jehovah’s righteous standards and assures the exiles that pure worship will be restored.

Comment 3: The vision includes a river flowing out of the temple and the distribution of the land among the twelve tribes. It also presents a city whose name highlights Jehovah’s presence. The whole picture directs attention to a restoration linked with him: what mattered was not just the buildings but pure worship.

a. According to Ezekiel 18:19-22, how does Jehovah decide whether a person is good or bad?

Ezekiel 18:19-22 — “‘But you will say: “Why does the son not bear guilt because of his father’s error?” Since the son has done what is just and righteous, has kept all my statutes and has observed them, he will surely keep living. The soul who sins is the one who will die. A son will bear no guilt because of the error of his father, and a father will bear no guilt because of the error of his son. The righteousness of the righteous one will be accounted to him alone, and the wickedness of the wicked one will be accounted to him alone. “‘Now if someone wicked turns away from all the sins he has committed and keeps my statutes and does what is just and righteous, he will surely keep living. He will not die. None of the transgressions that he has committed will be held against him. He will keep living for doing what is righteous.’

Comment 1: Jehovah judges each person by his own actions. A son is not guilty of his father’s sins, nor is a father guilty of his son’s sins. This demonstrates perfect justice: Jehovah does not label us according to our family but takes into account what we ourselves do.

Comment 2: The passage also shows that Jehovah takes sincere changes into account. If someone abandons wickedness and begins to obey, he is not condemned forever because of his past. This teaches us not to treat someone as if he could never change, when Jehovah himself offers him that opportunity.

Comment 3: For Jehovah, repentance must be seen in a person’s conduct. The passage links abandoning sin with obeying and acting in a righteous way. So it is not enough to express regret. We can ask ourselves what specific decisions show that we want to do what is right and accept Jehovah’s help to keep changing.

b. Notice how Jehovah will react when Gog attacks his people (38:18, 19, 22). How does this make you feel?

Ezekiel 38:18-19 — “‘On that day, the day when Gog invades the land of Israel,’ declares the Sovereign Lord Jehovah, ‘my great rage will flare up. In my zeal, in the fire of my fury, I will speak; and in that day there will be a great earthquake in the land of Israel.

Comment 1: These words convey security because they show that Jehovah will not be indifferent when his people are attacked. The intensity of his reaction makes clear that what happens to his servants matters to him. We can face the future with confidence in his concern and his ability to defend them.

Comment 2: They also help us feel loved. Jehovah does not present aggression against his people as someone else’s concern. Knowing that he will react firmly strengthens our confidence in him. The protection he promises does not depend on his servants appearing strong to the world but on the relationship they have with him.

Comment 3: At the same time, this account inspires deep respect for Jehovah. His patience does not mean that he will tolerate wickedness indefinitely. Rather than speculating about every detail of the attack, we can focus on the sure lesson: Jehovah knows what is happening and will act to defend his people.

c. Jehovah promises his people “showers of blessing” (34:26). How have these words come true in your life?

Ezekiel 34:26 — I will make them and the area around my hill a blessing, and I will cause the rain to fall at the proper time. Blessings will pour down like the rains.

Comment 1: One blessing we can think about is getting to know Jehovah better through his Word. This study itself allows us to appreciate his mercy, justice, and promises. When preparing a personal response, we can identify one of those teachings and explain how it has helped us draw closer to him.

Comment 2: We can also think about the value of meeting together to worship Jehovah. The material reminds us that faithful exiles met together to read the Scriptures. In our case, it is good to ask ourselves what guidance or encouragement we have received at the meetings and to recognize that help as a blessing, without taking it for granted.

Comment 3: The hope Jehovah gives us is another blessing that we can personally value. Ezekiel speaks of peace, security, and restoration. To answer sincerely, we can think about how those promises influence the way we face a difficulty. We do not need to tell something extraordinary; it is enough to acknowledge a real help.

a. Why is Ezekiel called “son of man”? (3:17; nwt glossary). Who else is called that in the Bible? (Mt. 20:28).

Ezekiel 3:17 — “Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman to the house of Israel; and when you hear a word from my mouth, you must warn them from me.

Comment 1: The expression highlights that Ezekiel was a human being. Although Jehovah had given him a very important responsibility, the prophet was not the source of the message. He had to listen to what God said and convey it. His authority as a watchman came from Jehovah, not from his own status.

Matthew 20:28 — Just as the Son of man came, not to be ministered to, but to minister and to give his life as a ransom in exchange for many.”

Comment 2: Jesus also received that designation. In Matthew, he used it when explaining that he came to serve and to give his life as a ransom. The passage enables us to answer the second part of the question and, in addition, to appreciate that Jesus used his position to benefit others, not to seek to be served.

Comment 3: Both passages teach us something about serving Jehovah. Ezekiel had to faithfully communicate a message received from God, and Jesus highlighted his willingness to serve. We can apply that lesson by remembering that a responsibility is not a reason to consider ourselves important, but an opportunity to carry out Jehovah’s will.

b. How was Ezekiel 17:16 fulfilled? (Jer. 52:11).

Ezekiel 17:16 — “‘“As surely as I am alive,” declares the Sovereign Lord Jehovah, “he will die in Babylon, in the place where the king who made him king lives, the one whose oath he despised and whose covenant he broke.

Comment 1: Jehovah had announced that Zedekiah would die in Babylon. Box 26A points out that this happened after the destruction of Jerusalem. It was not a vague prediction about a difficult outcome: it indicated where his life would end, and the later account confirms its fulfillment.

Jeremiah 52:11 — Then the king of Babylon blinded Zedekiah’s eyes, bound him with copper fetters, brought him to Babylon, and kept him imprisoned until the day of his death.

Comment 2: Jeremiah provides the details of the fulfillment. The king of Babylon blinded Zedekiah, took him prisoner to Babylon, and kept him imprisoned until his death. By comparing the two books, we see how the record of events confirms what Jehovah had announced through Ezekiel.

Comment 3: The prophecy also mentions that Zedekiah had despised an oath and broken a covenant. This reminds us of the seriousness of commitments. The fulfillment strengthens our confidence in Jehovah’s word and, at the same time, moves us not to minimize what we promise.

c. How does Matthew chapter 1’s genealogy show that Jesus had “the legal right” to receive “the crown”? (21:26, 27).

Ezekiel 21:26-27 — This is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah says: ‘Remove the turban, and take off the crown. This will not remain the same. Raise up the low one, and bring low the high one. A ruin, a ruin, a ruin I will make it. And it will not belong to anyone until the one who has the legal right comes, and I will give it to him.’

Comment 1: The prophecy shows that Jehovah had reserved the kingdom for someone with the legal right to receive it. Matthew’s genealogy connects Jesus with David’s family, as the material about the Messiah indicates. Therefore, Jesus was not someone unrelated to the promised royal line.

Comment 2: There is a connection between Ezekiel’s promise and the identification of Jesus as a descendant of David. The throne could remain vacant for many years, but that did not cancel the promise. The genealogy helps us recognize the Messiah in whom it would be fulfilled, rather than leaving his identity without a basis.

Comment 3: Luke complements this information by explaining that Jehovah would give Jesus David’s throne. Thus, two aspects come together: Jesus belongs to the foretold family, and Jehovah appoints him to rule. Our confidence in his government rests on God’s promises, not simply on human preference.

a. How can what Ezekiel 18:21, 22 says help you if you feel bad about past mistakes?

Ezekiel 18:21-22 — “‘Now if someone wicked turns away from all the sins he has committed and keeps my statutes and does what is just and righteous, he will surely keep living. He will not die. None of the transgressions that he has committed will be held against him. He will keep living for doing what is righteous.’

Comment 1: This passage assures us that Jehovah does not continue holding the sins of someone who repents and changes against him. If we have abandoned a wrong course, we do not have to think that Jehovah still views us as the same person. His promise gives us reason to trust in his forgiveness.

Comment 2: The text also directs us toward what we can do now: obey Jehovah and practice what is righteous. We cannot change the past, but we can change our present decisions. Instead of remaining paralyzed by guilt, we can demonstrate our repentance by conduct that pleases Jehovah.

Comment 3: Feeling pain over a mistake does not mean that Jehovah refuses to forgive us. It is helpful to distinguish our feelings from what he promises. His Word does not minimize sin, but it does offer hope to the repentant person. Meditating on that mercy can help us continue serving him without defining ourselves solely by our mistakes.

b. How is Ezekiel 3:18, 19 related to the preaching work?

Ezekiel 3:18-19 — When I say to someone wicked, ‘You will surely die,’ but you do not warn him, and you fail to speak in order to warn the wicked one to turn from his wicked course so that he may stay alive, he will die for his error because he is wicked, but I will ask his blood back from you. But if you warn someone wicked and he does not turn back from his wickedness and from his wicked course, he will die for his error, but you will certainly save your own life.

Comment 1: Ezekiel had the responsibility to convey Jehovah’s warning. Similarly, we must take the preaching work seriously. The message can help people change their conduct and draw close to God. Therefore, we do not want to stop speaking simply because some do not wish to listen.

Comment 2: The passage distinguishes between the responsibility to communicate the message and the decision to accept it. Ezekiel could not force anyone to change. This helps us maintain balance: we should strive to preach faithfully, but we should not measure our service only by the reaction of those who listen to us.

Comment 3: We also see the loving purpose of the warning: to give the wicked person the opportunity to abandon his course and keep living. That idea can influence our tone when preaching. We do not speak to condemn people, but because we want them to listen to Jehovah and benefit from his guidance.

c. What can the elders learn from Ezekiel 34:11-16? (1Pe 5:2).

Ezekiel 34:11-16 — “‘For this is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah says: “Here I am, and I myself will search for my sheep, and I will care for them. I will care for my sheep like a shepherd who has found his scattered sheep and is feeding them. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered in the day of clouds and thick gloom. I will bring them out from the peoples and collect them together from the lands and bring them into their land and feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the streams and by all the dwelling places of the land. In a good pasture I will feed them, and the land where they graze will be on Israel’s high mountains. They will lie down there in a good grazing land, and they will feed on choice pastures on the mountains of Israel.” “‘“I myself will feed my sheep, and I myself will make them lie down,” declares the Sovereign Lord Jehovah. “The lost one I will search for, the stray I will bring back, the injured I will bandage, and the weak I will strengthen; but the fat one and the strong one I will annihilate. I will feed that one with judgment.”

Comment 1: The elders can imitate Jehovah’s initiative. He searches for the sheep and is concerned about those who are scattered or have strayed away. This encourages the congregation’s shepherds not always to wait for someone to ask for help, but to take an interest in their situation.

Comment 2: Jehovah distinguishes between sheep that are injured, weak, or straying, and he attends to their needs. The elders can learn not to treat every situation in the same way. Listening to and understanding what is happening to each brother will help them offer the comfort, encouragement, or direction he needs.

1 Peter 5:2 — Shepherd the flock of God under your care, serving as overseers, not under compulsion, but willingly before God; not for love of dishonest gain, but eagerly;

Comment 3: Peter adds that they should shepherd willingly and eagerly. This involves more than simply carrying out tasks; it means caring for people who belong to Jehovah. Keeping in mind who owns the flock helps the elders serve with humility, pure motives, and genuine concern for the brothers.

4. WHAT OTHER VALUABLE POINTS HAVE YOU FOUND IN THIS BIBLE BOOK?

Comment 1: Box 26A shows how much Ezekiel is connected with other Bible books. For example, it connects the announcement of the Jews’ return with the account in Ezra. Comparing a promise with its fulfillment enriches our reading and helps us see the Bible as a coherent message.

Comment 2: Another valuable lesson is that bearing Jehovah’s name involves a responsibility. The box links Ezekiel with Romans to show that bad conduct can cause others to speak abusively of God. This moves us to think about how our actions influence people’s opinion of him.

Comment 3: It also highlights Jehovah’s desire to be with his people. The box connects that promise in Ezekiel with other Bible passages. Among so many visions and announcements of judgment, this thought is especially comforting: Pure worship enables us to enjoy a close relationship with Jehovah, who wants to care for his servants.

Answers and comments for the Congregation Bible Study for the week of January 4-10, 2027, based on gwt
