If he believes that a treatment can save his life, he looks for a way to pay for it. If he believes that an education can open doors for him, he devotes time and effort to it. In other words, when something has great value, we do not usually see it as a burden, but as something worth giving up things for. That is why the title of this talk makes us think: How much are you willing to invest?

We all invest our life in something. We invest time, energy, attention, and mental strength. The question is whether we are investing it in what truly satisfies, in what brings real peace, and in what can save our life. That is why today’s theme makes us think: How much are you willing to invest?

Let us begin with the first idea. Jehovah promised that he would teach his children. Isaiah 54:13 says: “And all your sons will be taught by Jehovah, and the peace of your sons will be abundant.” What beautiful words. Jehovah not only promises to bless his people; he promises to teach them personally. The God of immense wisdom is willing to teach imperfect humans. That alone tells us a lot about his love and his interest in us.

These words applied to the anointed Christians and, by extension, also to the other sheep. And another prophecy now being fulfilled confirms that. Isaiah saw people from many nations saying: “Let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah … and he will instruct us about his ways.” What a beautiful scene: people of all sorts coming to Jehovah to be taught by him. And that is exactly what is happening today.

Think about the privilege that represents. In the world, many people look for guidance, but they do not know where to find it. Some listen to experts, others to social media, others to their emotions, and others to popular opinion. But Jehovah offers something incomparable: he himself teaches us. He instructs us about his ways so that we may walk in them. In other words, he does not teach us merely so that we know more, but so that we may live better.

And the result, according to Isaiah 54:13, is that “the peace of your sons will be abundant.” Not a superficial peace, but an abundant one. So right from the start we see something very important: Jehovah does not teach us to fill our head with information. He teaches us to give us peace. He teaches us because he loves us and wants what is best for us.

But here a key question comes in. If Jehovah is willing to teach us, we must be willing to learn. And that brings us to the second point: we must invest time in learning Bible truths.

Let us read Isaiah 55:1 and 2. There Jehovah says: “Come, all you thirsty ones! … come, buy and eat … without money and without cost.” Then he asks: “Why do you keep paying out money for what is not bread, and why do you spend your earnings for what brings no satisfaction?” What a loving invitation. Jehovah calls the thirsty ones and offers them water, milk, and wine. Clearly, he is not speaking about literal food, but about his words, about the truth.

In what sense? The truth is like fresh water: it refreshes. It is like milk: it nourishes and helps us grow. And it is like wine: it makes the heart rejoice. In other words, the truth satisfies real needs. It refreshes us when we are exhausted, strengthens us when we are weak, and brings joy when we live according to Jehovah’s standards.

That is why Jehovah asks: “Why are you spending your life on what does not satisfy?” And that question is still very relevant. Many people invest their best strength in money, image, entertainment, comfort, or their own projects. But sooner or later they discover that none of that truly fills the heart.

By contrast, Jehovah invites us to buy something that really is worth it: the truth. Yet although Isaiah says “without money and without cost,” learning the truth does involve a price. Not a financial one, but one measured in time, effort, attention, and priorities. And here it is worth asking ourselves: how much am I willing to invest?

We all have the same number of hours each day. And once time passes, it does not come back. So buying the truth requires time. Time to listen to the Kingdom message, read the Bible and Bible-based publications, study personally, prepare for meetings, and attend them. That time does not just appear on its own. We have to take it from less important activities.

And that reveals a lot about what we value. Because we all say that the truth is valuable, but the question is: does it show in the way I use my time? When someone truly values something, he makes room for it. He does not leave it for whenever he has time left over, because he knows there is almost never time left over. That is why Ephesians 5:15, 16 encourages us to use our time in the best way.

Besides, learning from Jehovah is not something that ends quickly. There is no point at which we can say: “I have learned enough.” We can always keep going deeper into Jehovah’s personality, wisdom, and works. So even if we have been in the truth for years, we still need to invest time in order to keep buying more and more truth.

However, investing time does not just mean filling hours. It also matters how we listen. And that brings us to the third point: listening attentively takes effort, but it can save our life.

Isaiah 55:3 says: “Pay attention and come to me. Listen, and you will keep alive.” What a strong expression: “Listen, and you will keep alive”. That teaches us that listening to Jehovah is not something secondary. It has to do with life itself.

Of course, truly listening is not always easy. At times our worries distract us. A noise or a movement breaks our concentration. Physical discomfort makes it hard to follow the program. Parents have to take care of their small children. And on top of that, we live in a time when everything competes for our attention. That is why listening well takes effort.

But the effort is worth it. Think of something simple. If a doctor were explaining to a patient exactly what he must do to save his life, it would be absurd not to pay attention. Well, at meetings and in personal study Jehovah gives us guidance that can strengthen us now and lead us to everlasting life. So does that not deserve our best attention?

What can help us? One useful suggestion is to keep our eyes on the one speaking and to follow the Bible texts that are read, even if we already know them. That helps keep the mind focused. It is also helpful to resist the urge to look at every noise or movement, because if we let our eyes distract us, we will miss part of the spiritual food.

And if anxious thoughts make it hard for us to concentrate, we can ask Jehovah for help. Psalm 94:19 and Philippians 4:6, 7 show that Jehovah can give us calm. So before a meeting, or even during it, we can pray and say: “Jehovah, help me concentrate. Help me to benefit. I want to listen.” And we can be sure that he wants to answer that prayer, because the meetings are a gift from him.

Here it is good to ask ourselves a very practical question: what can I do to improve the quality of my personal study and be more consistent? Perhaps the answer is to organize our schedule better. Perhaps to turn off certain distractions. Perhaps to prepare further in advance. Perhaps to simplify some less important activities. The important thing is not to settle. If the truth is worth so much, it deserves a serious investment.

And notice the thread connecting these three points. Jehovah promises to teach. We must invest time in learning. And we also have to listen attentively. In other words, Jehovah places an immense treasure before us, but he expects us to value it. Not because he needs our effort, but because he wants us to benefit from it in a real way.

So let us return to the question in the theme: How much are you willing to invest? If a person invests time in coming to know Jehovah, he never loses out. If he invests attention in the meetings, in study, and in putting into practice what he learns, he is investing in something that brings peace, joy, spiritual growth, and life. None of the time we give to Jehovah is wasted.

By contrast, when a person spends his best strength on what does not satisfy, sooner or later he notices it. He may have more distractions, more comfort, or even more material achievements, but he will not have the abundant peace that Jehovah promises to those who are taught by him.

So when this talk ends, it would be good for each of us to ask: what adjustments can I make to invest more in spiritual things? Can I protect my study time better? Can I prepare better for the meetings? Can I listen more attentively? Can I be more consistent? This is not about feeling guilty, but about acting wisely. If something is worth that much, it deserves a serious investment.

Jehovah has already shown how much he wants to teach us. He has given us his Word, his spirit, and the congregation. He warmly invites us: “Come,” “listen carefully to me,” “pay attention.” How sad it would be to let that invitation pass by because we invest too much in less important things.

That is why we should not view the time devoted to Jehovah as a burden or a loss. Let us see it for what it really is: the best investment possible. Jehovah promised to teach his children. He invites us to buy the truth. And he assures us that if we listen, we will keep alive. So the question still stands, and it is worth answering with our actions: How much are you willing to invest?

SPEECH Theme: How much are you willing to invest?
