This means that, even though we firmly defend what we believe, we should not speak harshly or in an aggressive tone. Bible truth should be presented calmly, with kind words and a peaceable spirit.

Comment 2:
We also need deep respect. The text does not say to make a defense in just any way, but with respect. That means listening to the other person, not mocking their ideas, and remembering that even if they do not think as we do, they deserve to be treated with dignity.

Comment 3:
We need to be prepared. Peter says that we should be “always ready to make a defense.” That shows that we should not improvise our faith. We have to study, meditate, and know how to explain simply why we believe in Jehovah, in the Bible, and in his standards.

Comment 4:
We also need courage. The text speaks of defending our hope “before everyone who demands of us a reason.” At times that can happen in uncomfortable situations, but if Christ holds first place in our heart, we will have the courage to speak without being ashamed.

Comment 5:
Another necessary quality is humility. When we explain our beliefs, we do not do so to win arguments or to come out above anyone. Rather, we want to help the person understand our hope. That humble attitude makes our words better reflect the Christian spirit.

Why are these qualities important?

Comment 1:
They are important because our words can draw people toward the truth or push them away from it. If we speak with mildness, the person may feel more willing to listen. But if we speak harshly, even if we are right, the other person may close up and not want to hear any more.

Comment 2:
They are important because we represent Christ. The verse says that we should sanctify the Christ as Lord in our hearts. So when we defend our beliefs, what matters is not only what we say but also how we say it. Our tone should honor Christ.

Comment 3:
These qualities are important because spiritual subjects can touch deep feelings. Some people have very strong opinions or personal experiences related to certain matters. If we show respect, it will be easier for them to notice that we do not want to attack, but to explain sincerely what we believe.

Comment 4:
They are important because they help us keep the peace. Peter does not encourage us to argue with pride, but to make a defense with mildness. That protects us from falling into provocations and helps us keep being peaceable Christians even when someone challenges us.

Comment 5:
They are also important because they make our hope more appealing. The person may not accept what we say right away, but they may be impressed by our calmness, respect, and conviction. In this way we leave a good impression and perhaps open the door to another conversation.

“The fruitage of true righteousness will be peace”

Question: Based on what we saw in the video, what can help us tactfully explain what we believe about homosexuality?

Comment 1:
The video shows that it helps a lot to start by clarifying that we do not hate anyone. Olivia said clearly: “That is not true; we do not hate anyone.” That idea is important because people may think that defending Bible standards means rejecting or despising people, but it does not.

Comment 2:
It also helps to explain that we believe that God is not partial. Olivia mentioned that idea to show that we as Jehovah’s Witnesses believe everyone should be treated equally. In this way we make it clear that our beliefs are not based on prejudice, but on the Bible.

Comment 3:
It helps to distinguish between accepting people and approving of any conduct. Olivia explained that God accepts everyone, but he does not approve of just any behavior. Explaining it that way helps the person see that Jehovah’s standards apply to everyone, not only to one specific group.

Comment 4:
It also helps to talk about the Bible standard in a general way. Instead of focusing only on homosexuality, Olivia explained that we follow God’s standard of not having sexual relations outside of marriage. That presents the matter in a more balanced way and shows that the moral standard is the same for everyone.

Comment 5:
The video also teaches that we should stay calm and speak tactfully. Olivia did not respond in an offensive way when she was pressured. She even said: “I wondered the same thing.” That phrase lowered the tension and allowed her to explain her beliefs in a reasonable and respectful way.

Theme: “Ready to Make a Defense […] With a Mild Temper and Deep Respect” Read 1 Peter 3:15: 1 Peter 3:15: But sanctify the
