Theme: Let us not become spiritually sick as happened to the people of Judah.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

When a person feels physically ill, the most prudent thing is to pay attention to symptoms. If you notice pain, extreme tiredness or fever, it doesn’t say, “It’s okay, I’ll ignore it.” The sensible thing is to accept a diagnosis and follow a treatment. In a spiritual sense something similar happens. There may be symptoms that indicate that something is not going well: less often when praying, little concentration in meetings, lack of enthusiasm to preach, ease of criticism or a growing attraction for things that Jehovah disapproves. The question is: how do we react when Jehovah helps us see those symptoms?<\/p>\n\n

In this week’s weekly reading of Jeremiah 4 to 6, and the first point shows that the people of Judah were stubborn and rebellious. Let’s read Jeremiah 4:4<\/u><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

Circummese to Jehovah and take away the foreskin from your hearts, men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, that my fury may not kindle like a fire and burn without anyone being able to turn it out because of their evil deeds.<\/p>\n\n

After we read it, let us notice that Jehovah does not focus only on outer appearances; he speaks of the heart. The Jews could have a religious identity, they could live near the temple, they could know certain customs, but Jehovah saw something deeper: they needed to take away from their hearts what was taking them away from it.<\/p>\n\n

That teaches us that spiritual health is not measured only by what others see. We can be present at a meeting and still need help at heart. We can participate in spiritual activities and, yet to be allowing some wrong desire to take root. Therefore, Jehovah invites us to examine us honestly, not to be ashamed, but to heal us.<\/p>\n\n

Let us now read Jeremiah 4:14 <\/u><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

Cleanse your heart from wickedness, O Jerusalem, to save you. How long will you get bad thoughts?<\/p>\n\n

This text adds another image: to cleanse the heart of evil. Cleaning doesn’t happen by accident. If a room builds up dust, it’s not enough to want it to be clean. We have to open, remove, sort and clean. Likewise, cleansing the heart means identifying thoughts, habits or influences that ensiave us spiritually. Maybe it’s a form of entertainment that weakens our moral sensibility. Maybe it’s resentment against a brother. Perhaps it is the custom of consuming information that feeds doubt, pride or mistrust.<\/p>\n\n

The second point we are going to analyze is that Judah was not interested in receiving the diagnosis that Jehovah made of his spiritual state. Read Jeremiah 5:31 <\/u><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

He says: Prophets prophesy lies and priests use their authority to dominate others. And my own people love that. But what will you do when the end comes?<\/p>\n\n

At the end of the reading, let us look at a very serious expression: the people liked what the false guides said. Not only were they being deceived; in a sense, they preferred to hear what their wishes confirmed. That’s a very present danger.<\/p>\n\n

Today we live surrounded by voices. Internet, social media, opinions, comments, videos, messages sent… many voices compete for our attention. Some may sound nice because they tell us just what we want to hear. But an idea does not become true because we like it, nor does it become spiritual because it calms us down. Jehovah loves us too much to tell us only how comfortable. Sometimes his Word of God corrects us, wakes us up and forces us to make decisions.<\/p>\n\n

Let’s think of a medical visit. If the doctor says, everything is perfect when there’s actually a serious illness, we may feel calm for a moment, but we’ll be in danger. On the other hand, if you give us a clear diagnosis and treatment, maybe at first it will make us uncomfortable, but it can save our lives. Jehovah did this with Judah: he gave them warning in time. The problem was that many didn’t want to hear them.<\/p>\n\n

The third point we will discuss shows the consequences of not listening. Read Jeremiah 6:17-19<\/u><\/strong> . <\/p>\n\n

And I appointed sent can they, saying, Pay attention to the sound of the horn. But they replied, “We will not pay attention.” So, hear, O, nations. And grotheve, O assembly, what will happen to them. Listen, oh, earth. I will send a calamity to this people as a result of their own evil plans, because they did not pay attention to my words and rejected my law.<\/p>\n\n

Reading it, let us notice that Jehovah named sent sentries and that the people replied that they would not pay attention. Jehovah did not punish without warning. He spoke to them over and over again. He gave them opportunities. But they rejected discipline.<\/p>\n\n

What sentry did Jehovah give us today? We have his Word, which warns us against materialism, immorality, violence, lies and pride. We have the meetings, where we are reminded of how to protect the heart. We have the elderly, who they shepherd with affection. We have biblical publications that help us see spiritual dangers before they hurt us. The question is whether we see these aids as a sign of Jehovah’s love or not we take advantage of them as we should.<\/p>\n\n

The activity guide raises a final question: What can I do not to get sick in the spiritual sense? We can respond with a number of concrete measures. The first is to maintain a constant spiritual feeding. No one stays healthy eating once a month. Similarly, we cannot rely solely on attending meetings irregularly or on a text read quickly. We need to read the Bible regularly, meditate and allow what you learned influence our decisions.<\/p>\n\n

The second step is to pray with transparency. Sometimes we don’t need elegant words, but honesty. We can say to Jehovah, “It is hard for me to forgive,” I feel cold spiritually, I am attracted to something that I know is not in my best interests, I need help to regain joy. Jehovah is not surprised to hear our struggles. On the contrary, he wants us to come to him before the problem progresses.<\/p>\n\n

The third step is to accept the correction. None of us enjoy being told a flaw. But humility allows us to see correction as medicine. Bible-based advice may hurt a little at first, as can a treatment, but it can avoid much greater damage. If an old man, a spiritual family member or a publication helps us see something we must change, let us ask ourselves: Is Jehovah giving me a chance to heal me?<\/p>\n\n

The fourth step is to take care of our sources of information. If a sick person takes poison, it doesn’t get any worse because they eat healthy food too. Likewise, we cannot nourish ourselves spiritually and at the same time fill the mind with ideas that weaken faith. We must ask ourselves: Does this bring me closer to Jehovah or make me more distrustful, more critical, more indifferent?<\/p>\n\n

In conclusion, Jehovah does not want us to become spiritually ill. That’s why he speaks clearly, warns us in time and offers us treatment through his Word and his organization. That we never imitate Judah, who rejected the diagnosis. Rather, let us accept Jehovah’s help with gratitude. If we cleanse our hearts, listen to its warnings and follow a good spiritual routine, we can remain healthy, strong and close to our God.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
