Around you are other runners, and although the pace is demanding, you manage to keep moving forward. But suddenly you are told that from now on you will have to compete against horses. Clearly, to keep going you would need far more endurance, strength, and preparation.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jehovah used a similar comparison to help the prophet Jeremiah. Jeremiah was already facing difficult situations, but Jehovah knew that in the future he would have to face even greater trials. He did not say these words to discourage him but to strengthen and prepare him.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These ideas help us greatly too. As Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses, we know that we will face opposition. In addition, the trials we overcome now can prepare us to endure with faith more intense difficulties in the future. And an essential part of that preparation is cultivating sincere love for our brothers.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, let us consider that, just like Jeremiah, we as Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses will face opposition.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Jeremiah 11:21<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cTherefore this is what Jehovah says against the men of Anathoth who are seeking your life, saying: \u2018Do not prophesy in the name of Jehovah, or you will die at our hands.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These words show that Jeremiah did not merely receive criticism or unpleasant remarks. Some men of Anathoth wanted to take his life. They gave him a clear threat: \u201cDo not prophesy in the name of Jehovah.\u201d They wanted to silence him. They wanted him to stop speaking about the message that Jehovah had entrusted to him.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let us think about how difficult this must have been for Jeremiah. Anathoth was his hometown. It was a place where he should have found support, but right there were people who turned against him. Even so, Jeremiah did not stop serving Jehovah, nor did he let fear paralyze him.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We as Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses know that we too will face opposition for zealously preaching the good news of the Kingdom. In some places, our brothers are persecuted, imprisoned, or pressured to stop speaking about Jehovah. In other places, the opposition may be less intense, but that does not make it any less difficult.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps a relative tries to discourage us. Maybe a workmate ridicules our beliefs. A young person may face pressure at school for not taking part in something that goes against Bible principles. Or perhaps someone accuses us of being too insistent when we talk about the Bible.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The enemies of the truth have accused Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses of practicing \u201crelentless proselytizing.\u201d But Jehovah\u2019s faithful servants already received similar criticism in the past. Jeremiah was persecuted for speaking in the name of Jehovah. He also suffered ridicule, rejection, and opposition. Yet, he kept going.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The disciple James said that we should take as a pattern of suffering evil and exercising patience the prophets who spoke in the name of Jehovah. He also said that we consider happy those who have endured. So when we suffer opposition for doing what is right, we should not think that something strange is happening to us. Rather, let us remember that we are following in the footsteps of Jehovah\u2019s faithful servants who put their loyalty to God above their comfort.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jeremiah was not a fearless person. He felt distress and needed Jehovah\u2019s support. But he did not allow fear to decide for him. We can do the very same thing. We do not have to respond harshly or get into arguments. But neither should we be ashamed of being Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses or of respectfully explaining why we do what we do.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opposition we face now can strengthen much-needed qualities: courage, patience, endurance, and trust in Jehovah. And that leads us to the second point.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the future, very difficult trials await us, and facing them will be like \u201crunning a race against horses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Jeremiah 12:5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIf you have run with men on foot and they tired you out, then how can you run a race against horses? You may feel secure in a land of peace, but how will you fare among the dense thickets along the Jordan?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What a vivid comparison. If a person already tires out running alongside other men, how will he be able to compete against horses? To keep pace with a horse takes far more endurance, strength, and determination.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jeremiah was facing serious problems. There was opposition, threats, and people who wanted to silence him. Yet, Jehovah helped him to understand that it was not the time to slow down. The trials ahead of him were not meant to make him give up but to prepare him for what would come afterward.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week\u2019s information explains that we all have problems that test our faith. Dealing with them can be like running with men on foot. Maybe we are struggling with health problems, financial worries, family tensions, emotional exhaustion, opposition from relatives, or personal disappointments. At times a trial can make us feel that we cannot go on.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Jehovah helps us to view our current trials from another perspective. They are not pleasant, and we do not need to minimize the pain they can cause. However, if we face them with faith, they can strengthen our spiritual endurance.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each time we pray to Jehovah and keep trusting in him, we are developing endurance. Each time we maintain a good spiritual routine even when we are tired, we are strengthening our faith. Each time we obey Jehovah even when it is difficult, we are training ourselves spiritually.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why is it so important to do this now? Because, as the great tribulation approaches, the obstacles will be even more difficult. Facing them will be like running a race against horses. Clearly, we will need much endurance and strength to remain firm.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jehovah does not give us this warning so that we will live in fear. He gives it to help us prepare. A runner does not wait until the day of the race to train. He prepares ahead of time. He strengthens his muscles, improves his endurance, and learns not to give up when he is tired.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a similar way, now is the time to strengthen our spirituality. The meetings, personal study, prayer, the preaching, and the company of the brothers are not mere activities. They are means that Jehovah gives us to prepare ourselves.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We can ask ourselves: \u201cAm I taking advantage of my current trials to draw closer to Jehovah? Am I using prayer when I feel that I cannot go on? Am I protecting my spiritual routine, even when I have many worries?\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each time we overcome a trial with Jehovah\u2019s help, our confidence in him grows stronger. We learn from experience that Jehovah does not abandon us. And that confidence will be very valuable when we face more difficult trials.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But to endure, it will not be enough to have individual strength. We will also need to be very closely united with our brothers. That is why the third point is so important: cultivating love for our brothers now will help us to face the difficulties during the great tribulation.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Isaiah 26:20<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cGo, my people, enter your inner rooms, and shut your doors behind you. Hide yourself for a brief moment until the wrath has passed.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These words convey an image of protection and security under Jehovah\u2019s care. He knows how to protect his people. Although we do not know all the details of what awaits us, we do know that we will need to stay close to Jehovah and united with our brothers.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In moments of pressure, we do not want to isolate ourselves emotionally or allow small differences to separate us. On the contrary, we will need to cooperate, show humility, obey the instructions we receive, and demonstrate sincere love for one another.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The congregations are made up of brothers and sisters of very different backgrounds, ages, cultures, and personalities. Some are very talkative; others are more reserved. Some are very organized; others are more spontaneous. With some we may connect right away, while with others it may be harder.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The information mentions the case of a sister named Vanessa, from New Zealand. She found it hard to get along with some brothers in her congregation because certain personalities irritated her. She could have decided to avoid those brothers or focus only on the things she did not like about them.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But she did something very wise. Instead of distancing herself from them, she decided to spend more time with them. What was the result? She discovered qualities that Jehovah saw in those people. Later, when her husband was appointed as a circuit overseer, they met many more brothers, each with a different personality. She came to understand that variety can be something very beautiful and that Jehovah also appreciates that diversity, because he himself draws to his people very different individuals.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What a fine lesson. Sometimes, the solution is not to distance ourselves from a brother whom we find hard to understand. Maybe we need to get to know him better. Behind a direct personality there may be a generous heart. Perhaps someone who seems distant is very loyal or is going through a trial that we are unaware of. If we make the effort to draw closer, we can discover qualities that we had not seen before.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The key is to view our brothers as Jehovah views them. Jehovah does not focus only on imperfections or on a way of being that perhaps does not match ours. He sees the heart, the faith, the effort, and the sincere desire to serve him.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This will be very important in the future. During moments of pressure, we will not need to compete or insist on our preferences. We will need patience, humility, and love. It will be much easier to cooperate with brothers of different personalities if we learn to value them now.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We can ask ourselves: \u201cIs there a brother or sister whom I find hard to understand? Could I get to know him better? Could I think about his good qualities? Could I do something practical to show him love?\u201d Sometimes, a sincere conversation, an invitation, a word of encouragement, or some practical help can greatly strengthen a friendship.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The love among brothers is not just something pleasant; it is a spiritual protection. When we truly love one another, we support one another when someone is weak, we encourage one another when there is discouragement, and we help one another to keep our eyes fixed on Jehovah.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So how can we prepare to \u201crun a race against horses\u201d? Not by trusting in our own strength. We prepare now by facing our current trials with faith, by strengthening our relationship with Jehovah, and by cultivating sincere love for our brothers.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opposition that Jeremiah suffered did not stop him. The trials he faced prepared him to remain faithful. We too can learn from his example. When we face opposition, let us remember that we are not the first servants of Jehovah to suffer for speaking about him. When we have problems, let us remember that they can strengthen our endurance. And when we find it hard to get along with someone, let us remember that the love we cultivate today can help us greatly tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With Jehovah\u2019s help, we will not slow our pace.
