Throughout history, Jehovah has used human representatives to guide, teach, and organize his servants, such as Moses, the prophets, and the responsible Christians of the first century. So it would make no sense to say that we fully trust in Jehovah while automatically distrusting those whom he uses to care for and direct the congregation today.

Answer 2:

Jeremiah 17:7 says that blessed is the man who trusts in Jehovah. That trust is not just a feeling; it is shown by our actions. Today Jehovah directs the earthly part of his organization through the faithful and discreet slave, and the elders apply those instructions in the congregations. When we cooperate with that direction and avoid a critical attitude, we show that we trust in Jehovah and in his way of doing things.

Answer 3:

At times we may not immediately understand a decision or an instruction. But trusting in Jehovah also means recognizing that he sees far more than we do and that he can direct matters even though he uses imperfect men. In Bible times, some may have wondered whether Moses or David were acting correctly. Today we need that same humility so that we do not judge hastily but wait on Jehovah.

Answer 4:

Trusting in Jehovah’s representatives does not mean thinking that they are perfect or that they will never make mistakes. They are humans, just as God’s servants in the past were. But Jehovah can use imperfect men to accomplish his will and protect his people. If we follow the organization’s Bible-based direction and cooperate with the elders, we contribute to the unity of the congregation and show respect for the arrangement Jehovah has established.

Answer 5:

Our trust in Jehovah becomes especially evident when we receive instructions that call for obedience, patience, or personal adjustments. We may not always understand every detail, but we do know that Jehovah loves his people and guides them with wisdom. So trusting in his representatives helps us to stay united, spiritually protected, and focused on the Kingdom work, rather than being swayed by doubts or criticism.

Spiritual Gems From Jeremiah Chapter 16

Jeremiah 16:2

“You must not take a wife or have sons and daughters in this place.”

Comment 1:

Jehovah asked Jeremiah to make a very great personal sacrifice. Under those circumstances, raising a family would have meant exposing himself to much suffering because of the calamity that was approaching. This teaches us that Jehovah may ask us to make difficult decisions, but always for a loving and wise reason. When we trust in him, we accept that his instructions are meant to protect us, even if at first we do not understand every detail.

Jeremiah 16:5

“For I have taken away my peace from this people, declares Jehovah, as well as my loyal love and my mercy.”

Comment 2:

These words show how serious the spiritual condition of the people was. They had rejected Jehovah so many times that they could no longer enjoy his peace or his favor. This reminds us that true peace does not depend merely on living without problems but on having a good relationship with Jehovah. If we care for that relationship, we can feel his support even in times of pressure or uncertainty.

Jeremiah 16:9

“Here in this place, before your eyes and in your days, I am going to put an end to the sounds of joy and rejoicing, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.”

Comment 3:

The people’s disobedience ended up affecting even the happiest moments of life, such as weddings and celebrations. This helps us to see that turning away from Jehovah does not bring true freedom or lasting joy. On the contrary, it can extinguish the happiness of the family and of the community. Obeying Jehovah safeguards our joy and keeps our celebrations clean, peaceful, and pleasing to him.

Jeremiah 16:10, 11

“When you tell this people all these words, they will say to you: ‘Why has Jehovah decreed against us all this great calamity? What error and what sin have we committed against Jehovah our God?’ Then you must say to them: ‘“It is because your forefathers abandoned me,” declares Jehovah, “and they kept following other gods and serving them and bowing down to them.”’”

Comment 4:

The people seemed not to understand why they would receive discipline, even though their sin was obvious. That shows that a person can become so used to doing what is bad that he stops viewing it as something serious. This gem encourages us to examine our conscience with the Bible. We do not want to wait until we suffer consequences before asking ourselves what we have done wrong; it is better to correct our course as soon as Jehovah helps us to see it.

Jeremiah 16:12

“And you have acted worse than your forefathers; each of you is stubbornly following his own wicked heart instead of obeying me.”

Comment 5:

Jehovah pointed out that the problem lay in the stubbornness of the heart. It was not a lack of information but a lack of obedience. This reminds us that the heart can push us to justify what we want, even when we know that it does not please Jehovah. That is why we need to pray, study, and accept counsel. Humility helps us not to be ruled by a stubborn heart.

Jeremiah 16:15

“I will bring them back to their land, which I gave to their forefathers.”

Comment 6:

Although Jehovah announced discipline, he also spoke of restoration. This reveals his mercy and his desire to fulfill his promises. Jehovah does not focus only on punishing; he seeks to correct and restore when there is a basis for doing so. This gem gives us hope: If someone has drifted away, he can return to Jehovah and regain his relationship with him by responding with sincere repentance.

Jeremiah 16:17

“For my eyes are on all their ways. They have not been concealed from me, and their error is not hidden from my eyes.”

Comment 7:

Jehovah sees everything clearly. No one can hide wrong conduct from him, even if he manages to conceal it from other people. This should not frighten us if we love Jehovah; rather, it helps us to maintain a clean conscience. It also comforts us to know that Jehovah sees our good efforts, including those that no one else notices. He observes both what we do in public and what we decide in private.

Jeremiah 16:19

“O Jehovah, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in the day of distress.”

Comment 8:

Jeremiah viewed Jehovah as his strength, his stronghold, and his refuge. He did not rely on himself to endure the opposition or the bad news that he had to announce. We too need to view Jehovah in that way. When distress comes, it is not enough to hold on by means of our own strength. Prayer, the Bible, and trust in Jehovah give us refuge, calmness, and stability.

Jeremiah 16:19

“To you the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say: ‘Our forefathers inherited nothing but falsehood, useless and worthless things.’”

Comment 9:

This verse shows that people of the nations would come to recognize that they had inherited false and useless teachings. This is fulfilled today when many people accept Bible truth and abandon beliefs that do not honor Jehovah. In the ministry, this text encourages us to be patient and respectful. Someone may take time to recognize the truth, but Jehovah can open his eyes in time.

Jeremiah 16:21

“So I am making them know; this time I will make them know my power and my might, and they will have to know that my name is Jehovah.”

Comment 10:

Jehovah made it clear that all would have to acknowledge his name and his power. This reminds us of the importance of using and honoring the name of Jehovah. In a world where many do not know him or do not value him, we have the privilege of making him known. Every time we speak about Jehovah with respect and affection, we help others to learn who he really is.

Spiritual Gems From Jeremiah Chapter 17

Jeremiah 17:5

“This is what Jehovah says: ‘Cursed is the man who puts his trust in mere humans, who relies on human power, and whose heart turns away from Jehovah.’”

Comment 1:

Jehovah is not saying that we can never accept human help. The warning is against putting our primary trust in people, systems, or human abilities and letting our heart turn away from him. This helps us to keep balance. We can value the counsel of others, but our spiritual security must depend on Jehovah, on his Word, and on his way of viewing matters.

Jeremiah 17:6

“He will become like a solitary tree in the desert. He will not see any good come. He will reside in parched places in the wilderness, in a salty land where no one lives.”

Comment 2:

A person who turns away from Jehovah may seem strong, but in reality he is like an isolated tree in dry ground. He may have resources, intelligence, or self-confidence, but he lacks the source of spiritual life. This picture helps us to ask ourselves where we are drawing our strength from. If we drift away from Jehovah, sooner or later the heart dries up, and it becomes hard to see even our blessings.

Jeremiah 17:7

“Blessed is the man who puts his trust in Jehovah, whose confidence is in Jehovah.”

Comment 3:

This verse sums up a simple but powerful truth: Trusting in Jehovah brings blessings. That trust is shown when we obey his instructions, even if we do not understand every detail. It also involves trusting in the direction he provides through his organization. In doing so, we are not simply following men; we show that we trust in the way Jehovah cares for his people.

Jeremiah 17:8

“He will become like a tree planted by the waters, that sends out its roots by the stream. He will not fear when the heat comes, but his foliage will be luxuriant. In the year of drought he will not become anxious, nor will he stop producing fruit.”

Comment 4:

What an encouraging picture! A person who trusts in Jehovah is not free from heat or droughts, that is, from trials. But his spiritual roots are well nourished. Personal study, prayer, the meetings, and the ministry keep us close to the source of spiritual water. That is why we can keep bearing fruit even in times of pressure, exhaustion, or difficult changes.

Jeremiah 17:9

“The heart is more treacherous than anything else and is desperate. Who can know it?”

Comment 5:

Jehovah warns us that the heart can deceive us. At times it convinces us that a decision is right simply because we want it very much. So it is not enough to say, “This is how I feel about it,” or, “It seems fine to me.” We need to compare our thinking with the Bible and ask Jehovah to help us see ourselves honestly. This gem protects us from justifying bad decisions.

Jeremiah 17:10

“I, Jehovah, am searching the heart, examining the innermost thoughts, to give to each one according to his ways, according to the fruitage of his works.”

Comment 6:

Jehovah is not swayed by appearances. He searches the heart and the deepest thoughts. This is serious, but it is also very comforting. If others do not understand our motives, Jehovah certainly knows them. And if we are striving to do what is right, even when it is hard, he sees it. This truth encourages us to serve him sincerely and not merely to be seen by others.

Jeremiah 17:11

“Like a partridge that gathers eggs it has not laid is the one making riches unjustly. They will leave him in the middle of his life, and in the end he will prove to be foolish.”

Comment 7:

Jehovah compares dishonest riches to eggs that do not belong to the one who gathers them. In the end, that gain disappears and the person is shown to be foolish. This gem helps us to be honest at work, in business, and in any financial matter. Dishonesty may promise quick benefits, but it always ends up damaging our conscience and our relationship with Jehovah.

Jeremiah 17:13

“O Jehovah, the hope of Israel, all those abandoning you will be put to shame. Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust, for they have abandoned Jehovah, the source of living water.”

Comment 8:

Jehovah is called “the source of living water.” To turn away from him is like moving away from the only source that can keep us spiritually alive. In contrast, what the world offers dries up quickly. This text encourages us not to neglect our relationship with Jehovah. If we drink regularly from his Word, we will have the strength to resist pressure, exhaustion, and discouragement.

Jeremiah 17:14

“Heal me, O Jehovah, and I will be healed. Save me, and I will be saved, for you are the One I praise.”

Comment 9:

Jeremiah recognized that true healing comes from Jehovah. This can apply when we are hurting emotionally or spiritually. Although the brothers can encourage us and the elders can help us, Jehovah is the One who heals completely. That is why we turn to him in prayer, accept his counsel, and trust that he can restore our peace, our stability, and our strength to keep going.

Jeremiah 17:16

“But I did not run away from being a shepherd who followed you, nor did I long for the day of disaster. You well know what came from my lips; it was made known before your face!”

Comment 10:

Jeremiah could tell Jehovah that he had remained faithful as a shepherd and messenger. He did not desire disaster for the people, even though he had to announce it. This teaches us to fulfill our responsibilities with love, not with harshness. In the ministry, we do not speak about Jehovah’s judgment with satisfaction but with the sincere desire that people will listen, change, and benefit from Jehovah’s mercy.

Weekly question: Why do we say that trusting in Jehovah involves trusting in his representatives on earth?
