But we speak with people in many different places, as long as they want to, of course.<\/p>\n\nPerson:<\/strong> That must be difficult. I wouldn\u2019t know how to start talking about religion with someone I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n\nPublisher:<\/strong> To be honest, I try not to start in a forced way. I usually talk about things that concern all of us. For example, you\u2019ve told me several times that work has been causing you a lot of anxiety lately.<\/p>\n\nPerson:<\/strong> Yes. Even after I leave here, I keep thinking about the problems. But I don\u2019t think talking about religion will change the workload.<\/p>\n\nPublisher:<\/strong> You\u2019re right about that. The Bible doesn\u2019t make bills, deadlines, or problems disappear. However, it contains advice that can help us cope with them. One piece of advice has helped me. It says: \u201cDo not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus.\u201d<\/p>\n\nPerson:<\/strong> That sounds good, but it\u2019s easy to say, \u201cDo not be anxious.\u201d Actually doing it is another matter.<\/p>\n\nPublisher:<\/strong> Absolutely. The verse isn\u2019t saying that we can switch off anxiety as if we were pressing a button. Notice that it recommends making our petitions known to God. That involves telling him in detail what worries us and asking him for specific help.<\/p>\n\nPerson:<\/strong> But does prayer really change the problem?<\/p>\n\nPublisher:<\/strong> The problem may not change immediately. What can change is how we feel and how we deal with it. The verse promises \u201cthe peace of God.\u201d That calm can help us think more clearly and avoid feeling that we have to carry everything alone.<\/p>\n\nPerson:<\/strong> Well, when I talk to someone about what I\u2019m going through, at least I get it off my chest.<\/p>\n\nPublisher:<\/strong> Exactly. And for me, prayer is much more than getting something off my chest. As one of Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses, I\u2019m convinced that God listens and cares about what we go through. The verse also mentions giving thanks. Remembering something good, even on a difficult day, prevents worry from occupying our entire mind.<\/p>\n\nPerson:<\/strong> I don\u2019t usually pray. I\u2019m not even sure that God listens.<\/p>\n\nPublisher:<\/strong> I understand. I\u2019m not trying to convince you of everything during this break either. This is the first time we\u2019ve talked about it.
