He said to him, “I am a shield for you, and then he took care of him and his family, freeing him and his family.” (Genesis 15:1; Isaiah 41:8)

Answer 2:

Jehovah demonstrated that friendship by fulfilling impossible promises. When Abraham and Sarah were already older, Jehovah caused Isaac to be born. That made it clear that Jehovah does not abandon his friends and that his word is fulfilled even if he seems late. (Genesis 21:1-2; Isaiah 41:8)

Answer 3:

Jehovah showed his friendship because he communicated and guided him. He spoke to him, directed him and gave him clear instructions at decisive times. That closeness is not that of a distant God, but that of someone who accompanies his friend. (Genesis 12:1-3; Isaiah 41:8)

Answer 4:

Jehovah showed that he considered him his friend to be loyal in the long term: not only while Abraham lived, but also afterwards, fulfilling his promises to his descendants. That constancy is proof of true friendship. (Isaiah 41:8)

Hidden pearls of Isaiah 41

When Jehovah saith I have chosen thee; I have not rejected thee, it is my turn. Because there are days I feel discarded, as if I’ve already failed too much. And this text cuts off me that idea: Jehovah does not let me go to the first. (Isaiah 41:9)

Don’t be afraid, because I’m with you… I need it that way, simple. He doesn’t promise me a life without problems; he promises me company. And the truth is, only with that I’m loosening a knot in my chest. (Isaiah 41:10)

There’s a phrase I love for the practical thing: I’ll give you strength… I’ll help you. It makes me think of days when you don’t give me for everything, and it’s okay. Jehovah does not ask me for superpowers; he offers me the support I lack. (Isaiah 41:10)

When I read, I’m holding your right hand, I can literally imagine that scene. Like when you go with someone for a dangerous place and shake your hand so you don’t fall. Thus do I feel Jehovah when I pray for a truth. (Isaiah 41:13)

Jehovah does not speak to me as if I am invincible. He speaks to me knowing that I am fragile, that I am scared, that sometimes I break… and yet he tells me, “I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:14)

You’ll look for those who fight you, but you won’t find them, remind me how many times I spend nights imagining enemies, problems, scenarios… and then nothing happens. This text helps me to release that anticipated fear, for Jehovah is by my side. (Isaiah 41:11-12)

I am excited to read that Jehovah responds to the needy and the poor when there is no water. Because there are times when I am like this: no strength, no way out. And here Jehovah shall not scold; here he promises: I will not forsake them. (Isaiah 41:17)

When he says he will cause rivers to spring up in the wilderness, I think, Jehovah can change my surroundings, but also my inner. Where I only see this doesn’t matter anymore, he can make hope re-born. (Isaiah 41:18)

And the end, when Jehovah restrains idols and turns out that they are wind, makes me a filter. It helps me ask myself: what am I supporting my peace? Something real… or smoke? Because we don’t want to be living and chasing things that ultimately hold nothing. (Isaiah 41:23-24, 29)

Hidden pearls of Isaiah 42

When I read, this is my servant… my chosen one, I am excited because I see Jehovah speaking proudly of Jesus. (Isaiah 42:1)

It strikes me that he says he won’t scream or make noise in the street. Jesus didn’t need a life-changing scandal. That teaches me that spirituality does not have to be strident; it can be firm and calm, but effective. (Isaiah 42:2)

I like that he says that he will faithfully bring justice. It’s not cold justice, it’s constant justice. In a world where sometimes he wins the one who shouts the most, Jesus brings justice, through the Kingdom of God. (Isaiah 42:3-4)

The islands are waiting for their law. It reminds me that the message of Jehovah was not only for a people; it is for all. The Kingdom is not local: it is a global hope, for anyone who wants to learn and put faith in God. (Isaiah 42:4)

Jehovah saith, I have taken thee by the hand. That’s very close detail. It is like watching Jehovah holding his servant to accomplish the mission. And it gives me confidence: if Jehovah upholds his purpose, nothing will stop him. (Isaiah 42:6)

Open your eyes to the blind… get the prisoner out of the dungeon. I also see it in the internal sense: people trapped in guilt, addictions, fear, sadness. The Kingdom begins by liberating from within, and Jesus is key to that freedom. (Isaiah 42:7)

My glory I don’t give it to anyone. This verse sets a healthy limit on us: there is no room for idolatry. Jehovah does not share his place, and the truth, that protects me from disappointment, for no human endures to be God. We can feel respect and admire certain people, but never get to idolize them. (Isaiah 42:8)

He encourages me when Jehovah says he announces new things before they happen. It reminds me that faith is not a leap into the void: Jehovah has vision, he has a plan, and does not improvise with us. (Isaiah 42:9)

Sing to Jehovah a new song. For me it means renewing worship: not only repeating by custom, but thanking with eagerness, with life. Sometimes my praise needs to wake up, and this verse pushes me to do it. (Isaiah 42:10)

I’ve been quiet… but I’m gonna moan as a woman who gives birth. I’m impressed because it shows excitement. Jehovah is not indifferent; it is contained for a while, but it acts when the time comes. That helps me not to confuse patience with passivity. (Isaiah 42:14)

I will lead the blind on a path they do not know… and I will not abandon them. This is for me when I don’t know what to do. Jehovah can lead you through new routes, and also promise not to let go of you in the middle of the way. (Isaiah 42:16)

The final part of Isaiah 42:20: You see many things, but you do not pay attention. It usually happens to us. Sometimes I read, listen, I see… but I don’t let it change me. This chapter asks me for honesty: not only to hear, but to obey. (Isaiah 42:20)

In the final part of chapter 42, when he says that the people ended up plundered because they did not want to walk in the ways of Jehovah, it is a clear warning. Obeying Jehovah is our greatest protection. (Isaiah 42:22-25)

The Biblical passage for this week is the Isaiah 41 to 42. This week’s standout pearl question is: How did Jehovah prove that he considered Abraham his friend?
