Jehovah simply led the events for him to make a decision that fit with His purpose. That demonstrates the power of Jehovah without taking away Cyrus’ freedom of choice. (Isaiah 44:28; Proverbs 21:1)

Answer 2:

It is noticeable that Jehovah did not force him because the Bible says that Cyrus will fulfill the will of Jehovah, but not that he did it out of devotion. Jehovah can even use people who do not worship him to fulfill a prophecy. That further magnifies his wisdom and sovereignty. (Isaiah 44:28)

Answer 3:

Jehovah did not force Cyrus; rather, he used him as ruler to deliver his people and allow the reconstruction of the temple. Cyrus acted as Persian king, not as a faithful worshipper. So we see that Jehovah can move political affairs without nullifying the will of people. (Isaiah 44:28; Ezra 1:1-4)

Answer 4:

I am impressed to see that Jehovah called Cyrus, “my shepherd,” not because he was a faithful servant, but because he was going to serve a concrete purpose. That teaches me that Jehovah has total control of history and can use even someone who doesn’t know him to benefit his people. (Isaiah 44:28)

Hidden pearls of Isaiah 43

Pearl 1:

When Jehovah says I have called you by your name. You belong to me, it conveys a lot of closeness to me. He does not speak to his people as a mass, but as well as well-known and valuable people. That reminds me that for Jehovah I am not one more. (Isaiah 43:1)

Pearl 2:

I like that Jehovah does not say whether you pass through the waters, or if you go through the fire, but when. I mean, he doesn’t promise a life without proof, but he does promise to be with me inside them. And, honestly, sometimes that’s just what I need to hear. (Isaiah 43:2)

Pearl 3:

The phrase you became valuable in my eyes… and I love you, it touches me a lot. Because there are days when one feels little, but Jehovah sees value where sometimes we only see flaws. That gives a lot of peace. (Isaiah 43:4)

Pearl 4:

When Jehovah promises to gather his children from the east and from the west, I see a Father who does not forget any. It teaches me that Jehovah knows where each of his own is and that when he decides to act, nothing can prevent him from gathering his people. (Isaiah 43:5-7)

Pearl 5:

You are my witnesses, you remind me that it is not enough to say that I know Jehovah; my life should also prove it. Sometimes we preach in words, but other times we also bear witness with calm, faith and the way to react. (Isaiah 43:10-12)

Pearl 6:

It makes me very strong reading: When I do something, who can prevent it? This verse puts the problems in place. There are things that seem enormous to me, but to Jehovah they are not an obstacle. (Isaiah 43:13)

Pearl 7:

Look. I’m gonna do something new. How nice to think that Jehovah is not bound to the past. Sometimes I am hooked to what went wrong, but Jehovah teaches me to look forward, for he can still open new ways. (Isaiah 43:18-19)

Pearl 8:

Verse 22 seems very honest to me: Jehovah tells his people, “You grew tired of me.” That makes me examine myself. Am I serving Jehovah out of love or sometimes I get the routine? It’s a good wake-up call. (Isaiah 43:22)

Pearl 9:

I am greatly moved that Jehovah say, I am he that blotteth thy trespasses. It doesn’t minimize sin, but it doesn’t leave the repentant sunken either. Jehovah truly forgives, and that should motivate me to return to him with confidence. (Isaiah 43:25)

Pearl 10:

The end of the chapter leaves a very serious lesson: the people suffered because they did not want to obey. It reminds me that turning away from Jehovah never gives me real freedom; on the contrary, he exposes me. To obey him is not a burden, it is protection. (Isaiah 43:27-28)

Hidden pearls of Isaiah 44

Pearl 1:

I really like the chapter: Don’t be afraid. Jehovah knows that his servants are scared, they get tired and sometimes hesitate. But instead of pushing them away, he reminds them that he did them himself, trained them and continues to help them. (Isaiah 44:1-2)

Pearl 2:

The image of pouring water on the thirsty earth is precious. I understand it as the relief that Jehovah gives when one is dry on the inside, without power or discouragement. His spirit can bring life back to an exhausted heart. (Isaiah 44:3)

Pearl 3:

I am very struck by that beautiful wish: I belong to Jehovah. Hopefully that’s always my way of thinking. Let not belong to this world, nor my fears, nor my problems, but to Jehovah. (Isaiah 44:5)

Pearl 4:

When Jehovah says I am the first and I am the last, it transmits total stability to me. Everything changes, everything happens, but Jehovah is still the same. In such unstable times, having such a God gives a lot of security. (Isaiah 44:6)

Pearl 5:

Is there a God besides me? No, there’s no other Rock. What a good expression: Rock. It makes me think of something firm, sure, that doesn’t move. And the truth is, that’s just what you need when life gets hard. (Isaiah 44:8)

Pearl 6:

The description of making an idol with the same wood with which one warms or cooking is even absurd. It teaches me that idolatry is not always just a statue; today we can also give exaggerated value to things that cannot really save us. (Isaiah 44:14-17)

Pearl 7:

It feeds on ashes, it’s a very strong phrase. It makes me think about how empty people are when they get fooled by things they promise a lot, but they don’t hold anything. Without Jehovah, in the end one ends up feeding on smoke. (Isaiah 44:20)

Pearl 8:

When Jehovah saith, O Israel, I will not forget thee, and he gives me much tenderness. For sometimes one can think, Jehovah no longer remembers me. But this verse cuts that thought from the root. Jehovah does not forget his own. (Isaiah 44:21)

Pearl 9:

I love the invitation: Go back to me, ’cause I’ll buy you back. Jehovah does not wait with his arms crossed to see if we return; he himself cheers, attracts and opens the door. That says a lot about how merciful he is. (Isaiah 44:22)

Pearl 10:

The end of the chapter greatly strengthens faith. Jehovah spoke of Cyrus well in advance and called him by name before he did all that. For me, that confirms that Jehovah does not improvise and that his word is always fulfilled.
