Fear of what may happen tomorrow, bad medical news, insecurity, the changes that seem to come at once. And sometimes, even if we have faith, one wonders: How can I really keep calm? How can I not be dominated by fear?

Jehovah does not ignore our fears or minimize them. In his Word, he recognizes that this world can make us tremble. But at the same time Jehovah speaks to the heart of his servants with a direct, loving and firm phrase: Do not be afraid. And today we will rely on Isaiah 41 to strengthen our trust in Jehovah. We shall see that, though the world trembled, the servants of Jehovah do not have to live dominated by fear, because Jehovah is with them, strengthens them and sustains them.

Let’s start with the first point. Isaiah 41 shows us an impressive scene: Jehovah looks at the world stage well in advance and makes a prophetic statement. Let’s read Isaiah 41:2. He says, “Who made someone come from the east, calling him at his feet to do justice, to give him nations and to submit to kings?” Who reduces them to dust before his sword and disperses them before his bow as a stubble that takes the wind?

Here Jehovah is describing, in advance, Cyrus’s advance. Jehovah examines the world stage about two hundred years in advance. And what is seen in that prophecy is that the powerful armies of Cyrus advance quickly, overcoming those who offer them resistance. And what effect does that have on people? All peoples tremble at their proximity, even the inhabitants of the islands and the most remote places. Filled with fear, they unite to oppose the one that Jehovah has called from the east to execute his sentence. And among them they say, “Be strong.”

Let’s think about how realistic this is. When people feel they lose control, they get scared. And when you see something coming up that seems unstoppable, they try to join, organize, cheer… I was strong, it’s okay, it’s okay, we’ll figure it out. But often that bravery lasts little, because it relies on human forces that change, fail or disappoint. Instead, this prophecy teaches us something key: “Jehovah not only sees the world scene, but can also direct it to fulfill its purpose.

And this has a very practical application for us today. We live surrounded by news, crisis and change. The world is trying to find security in governments, in money, in technology, in human plans… and yet fear continues to grow. Isaiah 41 reminds us that, although the people tremble, Jehovah is still the one who sees the whole picture and the one who makes his purpose progress. If Jehovah was able to announce so far in advance what would happen and allow it to be fulfilled, that means that nothing escapes his hands.

Now, Jehovah not only describes the fear of the nations. Jehovah turns to his servants and tells them clearly that they do not have to live with that same fear. Read Isaiah 41:10. He says, “Don’t be afraid, because I’m with you.” Don’t be distressed, because I’m your God. I’ll give you strength. Yes, I will help you. With my right hand of justice, I’ll really hold you back.

What comforting words. Let us observe how Jehovah speaks: it is not cold, it is not distant, it is not just an order. Jehovah gives reasons that are reassuring. First he says, “I’m with you.” Jehovah tells his servants that they should not be afraid because they are not alone. He knows what they’re going through, listen to his prayers. It’s like I’m right there with them. In fact, the Bible reminds us that Jehovah is watching over his servants; for example, Psalm 34:15 shows that Jehovah payeth attention, and 1 Peter 3:12 also emphasizes that he hears the supplications of the righteous.

Let’s think about what that means in real life. Sometimes fear grows when you feel lonely, when you think, nobody understands what happens to me, no one can help me, I have to endure myself. Jehovah cut off that idea from the root and says to us, “I am with you.” It’s not just a pretty phrase. It’s a reality: Jehovah sees what we live in, and his support doesn’t depend on everything being well around us.

Then Jehovah adds, I am thy God. What do you mean? That Jehovah is our God, and we have his approval. Sometimes, when problems happen, a dangerous thought can be popped out: Will Jehovah be failing me? You’ve forgotten me? Jehovah reassures us by reminding us that his relationship with his servants does not change, that his love and care are constant. And we can be sure that, whatever happens, nothing will stop him from taking care of those who love him. Texts such as Psalm 118:6, Romans 8:32 and Hebrews 13:6 help us to reinforce this idea: Jehovah does not forsake, and his support is real.

And after Jehovah says something very nice, I will give thee strength. Yes, I will help you. With my right hand of justice, I’ll really hold you back. To be clear that we can count on your help, Jehovah repeats the same idea in three different ways. It is as if Jehovah look us in the eye and say to us, “Do I want you to understand it well.” I don’t want you to have doubts. And use the image of his hand to visualize. It is as if Jehovah say, When I lack your strength, I will give them to you. When you don’t know what to do, I’ll help you. When you’re about to fall, I’ll hold you back.

This makes us think of the daily life of a Christian. There are days when one is doing well, but there are others in which everything seems to weigh more: family concerns, economic pressures, exhaustion, or even times when the heart is filled with anxiety. What does Jehovah do in those moments? He doesn’t wait until we’re strong for ourselves. Jehovah is the one who strengthens.

And how do you do it today? One of the main ways in which Jehovah helps and strengthens his servants is with the Bible. The Bible is not a book of theory. Jehovah gives us practical advice to face real problems: poverty, disease, the death of someone we love. Proverbs 2:6, 7 remind us that wisdom comes from Jehovah, and Hebrews 4:12 shows that the word of God reaches the heart. Moreover, Jehovah uses his holy spirit, his power, to help us to think clearly and not to let the problems overwhelm us. Isaiah 40:29 and Luke 11:13 help us to see that Jehovah gives strength and gives a holy spirit to those who ask of it.

So when we’re scared, it’s not just about holding on. It is about approaching Jehovah in a practical way: praying, opening his Word, maintaining our spiritual routines, being in meetings, supporting us in the brotherhood. It is to allow Jehovah to fulfill what he promises: I will give thee strength… I will help thee.

And now we come to an even more personal and moving image. Let us read Isaiah 41:13: For I, Jehovah your God, I have your right hand grabbed; I am he who says unto thee, Fear not. I’ll help you.

Here Jehovah doesn’t just say, I’m with you. He says, I’ve got your right hand stuck. Let’s stop and visualize it. These words have been explained in a very nice way: Jehovah is not described walking hand in hand with us as a distant companion. If that were the case, it would be as if Jehovah took our left hand with his right hand. But the text says otherwise. Jehovah, with his right hand of righteousness, has our right hand clinged to his right hand, as if he were taking us out of a difficult situation. I mean, Jehovah is holding us hard, helping us to get out of a place where we couldn’t alone.

Let’s think of a simple example. When a person slips and falls in a dangerous place, what he needs is not just for someone to say, “Encourage.” He needs someone to hold her and get her out. Jehovah saith, I have thy right hand stuck. That conveys firmness, closeness and determination. Jehovah is saying, I will not release you.

And this is where the practical part enters for each of us. How do we see ourselves? Sometimes fear makes us feel small, helpless, without resources. But Isaiah 41 invites us to see us in another way: as people whom Jehovah truly loves, as children whom a loving Father and a faithful Friend is willing to help. Jehovah wants us to feel safe when we face difficulties. Why is that? Because he loves us. Without a doubt, Jehovah is a help that can be found quickly during anguish, as Psalm 46:1 says.

Now, we come to the closing question: How does the prophecy of Isaiah help us today 41?

It helps us, first, because it reminds us who is really in charge. Nations tremble because they trust unstable things. But Jehovah sees the world stage clearly, and its purpose goes forward. That gives us mental stability: we are not at the mercy of chance.

Second, it helps us, because Jehovah does not leave us with a general idea, but with words straight to the heart: I am with you… I am your God. That protects us from the fear that comes from loneliness and doubt. Jehovah does not turn away when we have problems; he is close and listens.

And third, Isaiah 41 helpeth us because it gives us a mighty image: Jehovah has our right hand clue. That teaches us that Jehovah not only aisines accomre follows us; Jehovah sustains us, lifts us up, and helps us to go out. And when we understand that, fear no longer rules. You can show up, yes, because we’re human. But he doesn’t lead our life.

So, what will we do when fear wants to squeeze the heart? Let us remember the words of Jehovah, not as a phrase, but as a reality: Fear us… I will help you. Let us pray with sincerity, let us seek strength in the Bible, let us remain close to Jehovah and his organization, and let us trust that Jehovah shall not release the hand of his faithful servants. And if Jehovah say unto us, I have thy right hand clothed, then we can be sure of something: whatever happens, and we are not alone with Jehovah, and we must not live in fear.

Subject: Don’t be afraid We live in a world where fear has become almost normal.
