We will get to know men and women who showed great courage, such as Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Moses, Rahab, Deborah, and Gideon. Although their circumstances were different, all of them courageously carried out the assignments they received from Jehovah.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The timeline helps us to place each person and to better understand the events. For example, Enoch was born while Adam was still alive, Noah survived the Flood, Abraham received a special promise, and centuries later the Israelites left Egypt and entered the Promised Land.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lesson 1: Enoch Walked With God<\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In what ways did Enoch show courage?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 1:<\/strong><br\/>Enoch showed courage by refusing to imitate the violent, rebellious people around him. Although most had adopted the same spirit as Adam, Eve, and Cain, Enoch chose to be peaceable. Remaining different when almost everyone else is doing what is bad calls for great inner strength.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 2:<\/strong><br\/>He was also courageous because he deeply respected Jehovah\u2019s name. In his day, some people began to use that name in an irreverent way. Enoch was not influenced by that attitude; instead, he showed by his life that he loved Jehovah and wanted to honor His holy name.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 3:<\/strong><br\/>Enoch accepted the assignment of being a prophet, even though he knew that he would have to speak to wicked, violent people. His message was very direct, for he announced that Jehovah would judge the irreverent. Preaching something so unpopular required courage, faith, and complete trust in God.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 4:<\/strong><br\/>His courage was also seen in that he kept proclaiming the message even though his life was probably in danger. People did not want to hear that Jehovah condemned their conduct. Even so, Enoch did not soften the message or stop carrying out the mission God had given him.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 5:<\/strong><br\/>Enoch showed courage by continuing to walk with Jehovah throughout his life. He was not courageous on just one specific occasion. Day after day he kept separate from wickedness, was peaceable, defended God\u2019s name, and carried out his work as a prophet despite opposition.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. In what way might people have started to \u201ccall on the name of Jehovah\u201d?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 1:<\/strong><br\/>From what the material explains, those people were not calling on Jehovah\u2019s name with respect or with a sincere desire to worship him. Apparently, they began to use his name irreverently, in a way that dishonored him instead of giving him the glory he deserves.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 2:<\/strong><br\/>This was not a spiritual awakening or people wanting to draw close to Jehovah. The context shows that mankind was becoming more rebellious and violent. So that way of calling on his name must have been disrespectful and contrary to true worship.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 3:<\/strong><br\/>They may have used Jehovah\u2019s name in an empty or profane way. Although they mentioned it, their lives did not show respect for him. This teaches us that it is not enough to use God\u2019s name; we must do so reverently and live in harmony with his will.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 4:<\/strong><br\/>Enoch saw that people claimed to use Jehovah\u2019s name while at the same time behaving violently and rebelliously. That showed that there was no sincere worship. He set himself apart from them by honoring Jehovah\u2019s name both with his words and with his conduct.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 5:<\/strong><br\/>Those people possibly used the divine name for purposes that did not have God\u2019s approval. Enoch, on the other hand, understood that this name is holy. His example reminds us that we should speak about Jehovah with deep respect and never use his name in a superficial way.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Enoch was the first servant of God to do a certain work. What was that work? What helped him to fulfill his commission?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 1:<\/strong><br\/>Enoch was the first servant of God whom the Bible presents as doing the work of a prophet. Jehovah assigned him to announce a message of judgment against irreverent people. He was able to fulfill that commission because he had very strong faith and a close friendship with Jehovah.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 2:<\/strong><br\/>His work was to publicly declare a message that came from God. It was not a personal opinion but a clear warning that Jehovah would judge wickedness. Knowing that the message came from Jehovah must have given him the conviction and courage he needed to keep speaking.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 3:<\/strong><br\/>He was helped by the fact that he walked with the true God. Enoch did not try to fulfill his commission by relying only on his own strength. His relationship with Jehovah gave him stability, peace, and courage to continue, even though those who listened to him were hostile and could harm him.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 4:<\/strong><br\/>The way his prophecy was worded also strengthened his faith. He spoke of the judgment as if it had already taken place, which showed that its fulfillment was completely certain. That certainty allowed him to deliver the message without hesitating, even when people reacted negatively.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 5:<\/strong><br\/>His love for Jehovah and his respect for the divine name moved him to carry out the prophetic work. Enoch wanted to defend God\u2019s reputation against the insolent words of sinners. That is why he kept preaching firmly, even though his commission demanded great courage.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. It is possible that before starting his work as a prophet, Enoch already knew that his courage would be tested. Why do we say this?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 1:<\/strong><br\/>Enoch knew the account of Abel, the first man to show faith and who was murdered by his brother Cain. So he knew that people who loved Jehovah could suffer for doing what was right. Accepting the work of a prophet meant exposing himself to a similar danger.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 2:<\/strong><br\/>He lived surrounded by people who had caught the rebellious spirit of Adam and Eve. Violence was already widespread, and some descendants of Cain were even more aggressive than he was. Enoch could foresee that his message would not be well received by that society.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 3:<\/strong><br\/>Before becoming a prophet, Enoch had already decided to be different from others. He was peaceable, whereas the people of his day were violent. That difference surely made him stand out already and could provoke rejection, so he knew that his faithfulness would require courage.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 4:<\/strong><br\/>He also saw that Jehovah\u2019s name was being treated without respect. Since Enoch deeply loved that name, he knew that defending it would put him at odds with the majority. The experience of his forefathers showed him that rebellion against God could lead to violence.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 5:<\/strong><br\/>Enoch knew what had happened in Eden, the disobedience of Adam and Eve, and the murder of Abel. All those events showed how far human rebellion could go. So he must have understood that announcing Jehovah\u2019s judgment could seriously endanger his life.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Although some believe that Enoch was taken to heaven, how could you show that this was not the case?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 1:<\/strong><br\/>John 3:13 says that no man had ascended into heaven except Jesus. Since Enoch lived thousands of years before Christ, he could not have been taken to heaven. The expression \u201cGod took him\u201d must be understood in a way that harmonizes with that clear statement.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 2:<\/strong><br\/>Hebrews 11 includes Enoch among the faithful servants and then states that all of them died in faith without receiving the complete fulfillment of the promises. Therefore, although Enoch did not experience a violent death, he eventually died and remained in Jehovah\u2019s memory.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 3:<\/strong><br\/>Being \u201ctransferred so as not to see death\u201d does not necessarily mean that he received heavenly life. Jehovah could have transferred him from a situation of great danger to a peaceful sleep in death, preventing his enemies from capturing, torturing, or murdering him.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 4:<\/strong><br\/>The account indicates that no one saw Enoch again because God took him. Jehovah could have ended his life peacefully and thus protected him from those who wanted to kill him. Enoch remained safe in God\u2019s memory, awaiting the future resurrection on earth.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 5:<\/strong><br\/>Enoch received the witness that he had pleased God, but the Bible does not say that he went up to heaven. Possibly Jehovah allowed him to see in a vision the future life in Paradise. Then he died with the assurance that he had divine approval and that he would be resurrected.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In what situations are we most likely to need courage to preach? How can Enoch\u2019s example help us?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 1:<\/strong><br\/>We may need courage when we have to speak with someone who looks intimidating or who has a reputation for reacting badly. Enoch\u2019s example reminds us that we should not judge only by the reaction we expect but should trust in Jehovah and present the message respectfully.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 2:<\/strong><br\/>At work or at school, some classmates or workmates may make fun of us when we talk about our beliefs. Enoch remained different even though he lived among irreverent people. His example helps us not to be ashamed of Jehovah or to let ridicule silence us.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 3:<\/strong><br\/>We also need courage to preach when someone opposes us or answers angrily. Enoch delivered a firm message, but he remained peaceable. We can imitate him by speaking calmly, without arguing, and trusting that our responsibility is to give a witness respectfully.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 4:<\/strong><br\/>Sometimes the greatest challenge can be speaking with relatives, neighbors, or colleagues whom we will see every day. Fear of a negative reaction can hold us back. Enoch teaches us that love for Jehovah and for people can be stronger than the fear of rejection.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 5:<\/strong><br\/>Enoch\u2019s example helps us to remember that we do not preach relying only on our personality. He was able to fulfill a difficult assignment because he walked with Jehovah. If we pray, prepare, and trust in God, we will be able to speak even in situations that make us nervous.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does Jehovah feel when we are courageous in walking with him?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 1:<\/strong><br\/>Jehovah feels happy and proud when we do what is right despite fear. Proverbs 27:11 shows that our good conduct makes his heart rejoice and enables him to reply to the one who taunts him. Every act of courage can defend the reputation of our heavenly Father.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 2:<\/strong><br\/>Hebrews 11:5 says that Enoch received the witness that he had pleased God. This shows that Jehovah observes and values our effort. Others may not understand why we are courageous, but Jehovah sees how we feel and rejoices when we remain faithful.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 3:<\/strong><br\/>When we are courageous, Jehovah looks not only at the result but also at the motive. He knows when we do something difficult because we love him. Even if we feel nervous or cannot express ourselves perfectly, our decision to obey him can greatly rejoice his heart.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 4:<\/strong><br\/>Jehovah considers as friends those who keep walking with him, as Enoch did. So when we defend his name or preach despite fear, we show that we value that friendship. He responds with affection, approval, and the assurance that he will never forget our faithfulness.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 5:<\/strong><br\/>Our courage shows that we trust in Jehovah more than in our own strength or in the opinion of others. That honors him and gives him a reply to Satan\u2019s accusations. Jehovah is pleased when he sees that his servants choose him even under pressure.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In what ways can you copy Enoch\u2019s example of courage?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 1:<\/strong><br\/>I can copy him by refusing to adopt the violence, rebelliousness, and disrespect that are common in the world. Even if others react aggressively, I can stay calm and be peaceable. In that way I will show that I want to walk with Jehovah and reflect his personality.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 2:<\/strong><br\/>I can also show deep respect for Jehovah\u2019s name. That includes speaking about him with dignity, defending his reputation, and living in a way that does not dishonor his name. Enoch made it clear that he was different because he sincerely loved the true God.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 3:<\/strong><br\/>I can imitate his courage by taking advantage of opportunities to preach, even if I feel nervous or think that the other person will not react well. I do not have to be blunt, but I do need to be willing to speak. Jehovah can help me to do it tactfully and calmly.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 4:<\/strong><br\/>Another way is to cultivate a constant friendship with Jehovah through prayer, study, and obedience. Enoch was able to face opposition because he had been walking with God for a long time. Courage is strengthened every day, not only when a test appears.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 5:<\/strong><br\/>I can also copy his perseverance. Enoch did not stop being faithful because the majority thought differently. If I keep my standards at work, at school, or in the family, even when others pressure me, I will show the same kind of courage and loyalty.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does this account teach me about Jehovah?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 1:<\/strong><br\/>It teaches me that Jehovah deeply values those who make an effort to be his friends. Enoch was imperfect, but he walked with God and received the witness that he had pleased him. Jehovah does not demand perfection; he appreciates faith, loyalty, and sincere effort.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 2:<\/strong><br\/>We also learn that Jehovah can give strength to carry out very difficult assignments. Enoch did not have a superhuman personality. He was able to preach because God supported him. Jehovah can give us the courage we need when he asks us to do something beyond our natural strength.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 3:<\/strong><br\/>Jehovah protects his servants in the way he considers best. He did not allow Enoch\u2019s enemies to torture him or kill him violently. Although he does not always prevent every trial, he can limit the damage and keep his friends safe in his memory.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 4:<\/strong><br\/>The account shows that Jehovah always carries out his judgments. Enoch\u2019s prophecy spoke of the judgment as if it had already happened, because its fulfillment was certain. This gives us confidence in all of Jehovah\u2019s promises, including those related to the end of wickedness.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 5:<\/strong><br\/>Jehovah is considerate and loving. Before Enoch\u2019s death, he gave him the assurance that he had His approval and perhaps allowed him to contemplate his future hope. Jehovah knows what his servants need in order to stay firm, and he comforts them at the right moment.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does this account relate to Jehovah\u2019s purpose and to the main theme of the Bible?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 1:<\/strong><br\/>The account relates to the sanctification of Jehovah\u2019s name. Enoch lived when many people treated that name irreverently, but he defended it and announced that God would judge those who dishonored it. In that way he supported Jehovah\u2019s sovereignty and reputation.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 2:<\/strong><br\/>Enoch\u2019s prophecy shows that Jehovah will not allow wickedness to continue forever. God will judge those who rebel against him and will cleanse the earth. This is part of the main theme of the Bible: the Kingdom will vindicate Jehovah\u2019s sovereignty.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 3:<\/strong><br\/>Enoch also proved that it is possible to remain faithful in a world ruled by Satan\u2019s spirit. His life supported the issue of human integrity. He proved that an imperfect person can love Jehovah and obey him, even when surrounded by rebellion.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 4:<\/strong><br\/>The hope that Jehovah may have shown Enoch was related to the future Paradise. God\u2019s original purpose for the earth had not changed. Although Enoch lived in a violent time, he could trust that Jehovah would restore peace and remove wickedness.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 5:<\/strong><br\/>His account also relates to the resurrection. Enoch died with God\u2019s approval and remains safe in his memory. When the Kingdom rules fully over the earth, Jehovah will be able to give him back his life so that he can enjoy the peaceful world he was hoping for.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What would I like to ask Enoch when he is resurrected?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 1:<\/strong><br\/>I would like to ask him how he felt living at a time when Adam was still alive. It would be interesting to know what was said about Eden, the rebellion, and Abel\u2019s death, and how those events influenced his decision to serve Jehovah.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 2:<\/strong><br\/>I would also ask him how he felt when Jehovah assigned him to announce such a direct message. Perhaps he was afraid, but he obeyed anyway. Knowing how he prayed, how he prepared, and what helped him to speak could teach us a lot about true courage.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 3:<\/strong><br\/>I would like to know how people reacted when they heard his prophecy. The Bible does not give all the details, so it would be interesting to know whether some listened to him, whether they made fun of him, and how he stayed calm in the face of threats.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 4:<\/strong><br\/>I would ask him what it meant to him to receive the witness that he had pleased God. It must have been very moving to know that Jehovah approved of his faithfulness. I would also like to know whether he received a vision of Paradise and what details he was able to see.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 5:<\/strong><br\/>I would like to ask him how he managed to feel accompanied by Jehovah even though he was so alone spiritually. His answer could help us when we find ourselves surrounded by people who do not share our faith and we have to remain different.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How can Enoch\u2019s example help you if you live surrounded by violent people?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 1:<\/strong><br\/>Enoch\u2019s example shows that we do not have to copy the conduct of those around us. Although he lived in a violent society, he remained peaceable. We too can avoid aggressive language, fights, and vengeful attitudes, even if they are common in our environment.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 2:<\/strong><br\/>It helps us understand that true courage does not consist in answering violence with more violence. Enoch was courageous because he obeyed Jehovah and kept the peace. We can firmly stand up for what is right without losing self-control or adopting the spirit of the world.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 3:<\/strong><br\/>If we live in a dangerous place, the account encourages us to maintain a close friendship with Jehovah. Prayer and study can give us calmness and help us to make wise decisions. Walking with God allows us to keep inner peace even in a difficult environment.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 4:<\/strong><br\/>Enoch also teaches us that Jehovah sees and values our situation. He knew that his servant was surrounded by violent people, and in the end he protected him. Even if we do not know how he will solve our problems, we can trust that Jehovah knows our limits and does not abandon us.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 5:<\/strong><br\/>His example encourages us not to let fear keep us from giving a witness. We should be prudent and avoid unnecessary risks, but we can keep looking for safe opportunities to speak about Jehovah. Enoch showed that it is possible to be peaceable and, at the same time, very courageous.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes. To round it off nicely, I would add <strong>two extra sections about the introduction to the section<\/strong> and a simple chart showing the life spans of the main characters. All of it comes from the information you sent me.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional information to add to the study<\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does Section 1 as a whole teach us about courage?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 1:<\/strong><br\/>This section shows that courage can be displayed in many ways. Enoch had the courage to preach, Noah to build the ark, Abraham and Sarah to leave their home, and Moses to confront a great power. Jehovah can help us to be courageous regardless of our age or circumstances.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 2:<\/strong><br\/>The people in this section lived in very different times, but they all had something in common: they trusted in Jehovah more than in their own fears. This teaches us that true courage does not depend on a strong personality but on a close friendship with God.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 3:<\/strong><br\/>Some showed courage by making long journeys, others by facing enemies, and others by remaining different from the people around them. So we should not think that we are courageous only when we face a great test. Therefore, the consequences of the rebellion in Eden were relatively recent. Enoch could have learned many details about Adam, Eve, Cain, and Abel, which surely influenced his decision to walk with Jehovah.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 2:<\/strong><br\/>Enoch and Noah lived before the Flood, when violence was increasing. Both remained faithful even though almost the whole society surrounded them with bad influences. This shows that it is possible to serve Jehovah even when one feels spiritually alone.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment 3:<\/strong><br\/>After the Flood, Jehovah continued to advance his purpose through Abraham and his family.
