Psalm 23:1, 2 presents Jehovah as a Shepherd who leads his sheep to places of rest and good pastures. Similarly, he makes sure that we never lack the spiritual food we need to keep our faith strong.

14. Why should we imitate the attitude of the writer of Psalm 119?

Because he deeply valued Jehovah’s reminders. Although he had surely heard many of the same teachings repeatedly, he did not view them as repetitive or uninteresting; he saw them as a precious possession that helped him remain faithful.

Answer 2:
Psalm 119:111 says that Jehovah’s reminders were his permanent possession and the joy of his heart. We can imitate that attitude by remembering that a familiar subject may contain exactly the counsel we need at this point in our life.

A teaching may not be new, but we have changed—we have new circumstances, responsibilities, or problems. So we may discover applications that we did not notice years ago.

15. What will help us continue to value the spiritual food we receive at meetings?

It will help us to remember where it comes from. Spiritual food is not just ordinary information; Jehovah uses his organization to prepare it carefully. Thinking about its source gives even a familiar subject great value for us.

The Israelites eventually grew tired of the manna, although at first they appreciated it and it literally kept them alive. Their example warns us that familiarity can cause us to lose appreciation for something extraordinarily valuable.

Proverbs 3:13 and the following verses show that wisdom is worth more than riches and leads to life. If we view what we learn at meetings that way, we will not ask only, “Do I already know this?” but, “How can I benefit from it more fully?”

One sister recommends sitting in the front rows. That may not necessarily be the best option for everyone, but the principle is very useful: deliberately choose a place where we will have fewer distractions and can concentrate better on the speaker and the videos.

Ask Jehovah for help

David mentions that he prays repeatedly so that he can concentrate. This reminds us that paying attention is also part of our worship. So it is appropriate to ask for holy spirit and help to fight thoughts or worries that could distract us.

Look for something for which to thank the participants

Having the goal of thanking someone for an illustration, an explanation, or an interesting example makes us listen actively. We are no longer merely waiting for the part to end; we are consciously looking for something useful to take away.

Value subjects that are repeated

If a subject is discussed again, there is a reason. This attitude keeps us from thinking, “The same thing again.” We can ask ourselves why we need that reminder now and what application we may not yet have made.

17. What else can you do to concentrate at meetings?
