Context: Informal preaching
Objective: Tell a co-worker about the Commemoration
Lesson: Be patient. Don’t think you have to get to talk about the Bible right away.

Scenification

Elena (Publisher): Marta, let alone before the day… today has become very long.

Marta (Person): Yes, really. I haven’t stopped for a moment today.

Elena (Publisher): I’m the same. Sometimes you get so tired that you don’t want to think of anything.

Marta (Person): Exactly. Get home, have dinner and rest, little more.

Elena (Publisher): Yes… although sometimes it’s okay to stop a little and think about important things. Lately many people are worried, as with the need for hope.

Marta (Person): Yeah, that’s very noticeable. Between work and how it is, people go with a lot of burden on them.

Elena (Publisher): Totally. Hey, now that you say that… there’s a special occasion I go to every year. It is the Commemoration of Jesus’ death. I like it very much because it helps to think about why what Jesus and God did for us was so important.

Marta (Person): Ah, okay? I don’t know if I’ve heard of it. Oh, I mean, why do they do it?

Elena (Publisher): Jesus himself said, in Luke 22:19: “Do you do this in memory of me.” That’s why it’s celebrated. This year is Thursday, April 2, 2026. It’s a meeting open to the public, free of charge, and lasts about an hour. Besides, anyone can go; you don’t have to be a Jehovah’s Witness or collect.

Marta (Person): Well, look, I didn’t know that. I thought it would be something more private.

Elena (Publisher): No, what’s going on. A lot of people, even whole families, go all over the world. It is a very respectful and very simple occasion. The importance of Jesus’ death and how it benefits us. 

Marta (Person): It seems interesting.

Elena (Publisher): If you want, tomorrow I’ll bring you your invitation and I tell you where it’s done, it’s around here. And without commitment we can go together.

Marta (Person): Well, I really liked it more than I expected. Everything was very calm and respectful.

Elena (Publisher): I am very happy to hear that. Was there anything that caught your attention especially?

Marta (Person): Yes. I liked that everything revolved around Jesus and what he did for us. And also that no one made me feel uncomfortable.

Elena (Publisher): That’s good. That’s important. Many people tell us similar things, and about the environment, that feel very comfortable. And I am glad that this was just my desire to invite you and to see the blessings that this great gift of God has upon us.

Marta (Person): Yes, you can see the love you have with each other. 

Elena (Publisher): The previous time we had talked about many people nowing looking to approach God, but sometimes they don’t know how to do it. I remembered you by a text, that of Romans 10:13: For whosa every man who invokes the name of Jehovah shall be saved.

Marta (Person): Well, that text is very nice. But, of course, it’s one thing to read it and another to know how to do it really.

Elena (Publisher): Exactly. And that’s why I thought of you. In our meetings, you learn, with the Bible, how to get closer to Jehovah and how to put into practice what he teaches. They’re meetings open to everyone.

Marta (Person): So… do you study every week of the Bible?

Elena (Publisher): Yes, in addition, everything is explained very simply. You don’t need to know much about the Bible to benefit. And honestly, I think you’d like to, because you value spiritual things and you like to understand why you do.

Marta (Person): Yes, that’s true.

Elena (Publisher): If you think, I might invite you to the next meeting. I think it would help you to keep knowing what the Bible teaches and feel closer to God.

Marta (Person): I may be encouraged to try one day.

Scenification 

Marta (Person): Elena, there is something I have always heard from a child: that with believing in Jesus is already there, that this is enough to save himself. You guys think that?

Elena (Publisher): We believe that having faith in Jesus is totally necessary, but the Bible shows that it is not the only thing that is necessary to save itself.

Marta (Person): And how is that? Because many people say it as if it’s enough to accept Jesus and already.

Elena (Publisher): Look, I give you a simple example. Imagine a father sees you’re in danger and sends his son to rescue you. In addition, it leaves you in writing clear instructions so you know what to do when the help comes. In that case, would you say, yes, I think your son comes to help me and rescue me, but then you ignore the father’s message and you don’t follow his son’s instructions.

Marta (Person): No, of course. If I really want to save myself, I’d have to listen to the two of you and their instructions. 

Elena (Publisher): Exactly. Well, with salvation something similar happens. It is Jehovah who made salvation possible, Jesus is the means that he uses, and the Bible explains to us what we have to do. So it would not be enough to say, I believe in Jesus, if then a person does not listen to Jehovah or follow what his Word teaches, and nor does he imitate the perfect example of Jesus on Earth. 

Marta (Person): Then you do not separate Jesus from your Father.

Elena (Publisher): No, not at all. In fact, the Bible teaches that Jehovah wants people to be saved and to come to have an exact knowledge of the truth. That is, salvation is not only based on an emotion or a phrase, but also on knowing well what God teaches in His Word.

Marta (Person): That changes the idea quite a bit. Because I would not only believe in Jesus, and in God, but I have to learn and understand what they want from me.

Elena (Publisher): Exactly. I’ll read you a text from the Bible. In Acts 16:31, 32, Paul and Silas said to a man, Believe in Jehovah Jesus, but then they also taught him the word of Jehovah. This shows that, in order to have true faith in Jesus, the person needs to learn first what the Bible teaches and know God.

Marta (Person): I like that detail, because many people think that Jesus and God, even, can be the same person. 

Elena (Publisher): Yes, and seeing the full context is better understood. It wasn’t just asking him to say a few words, but to help him know the truth. That is why we when we speak of Jesus we also speak of Jehovah Jehovah and the Bible, because one cannot understand the role of Jesus without knowing what his Father says in his Word and his purpose for all mankind.

Marta (Person): It has logic. But then, in addition to learning, what else would it take?

Elena (Publisher): There is also a need to obey. The Bible says in Hebrews 5:9 that Jesus became responsible for the eternal salvation of all those who obey him. Look, it says not only of those who say they believe, but of those who obey it.

Marta (Person): That is, obedience shows whether faith is real.

Elena (Publisher): Exactly. Because someone can say, I believe in Jesus, but if he then lives as he wants, ignoring what he taught, that faith is left alone in words. True faith is noticed in the way of life.

Marta (Person): Yes, that is well understood.

Elena (Publisher): Even the information mentions another important point: to endure to the end. Jesus said that he who endures to the end will be saved. So salvation is not something that is guaranteed in a single moment. You need to remain faithful over time, in the day to day.

Marta (Person): Then it wouldn’t be automatic.

Elena (Publisher): Exactly. Not automatic. Think of another very simple example. A person can start a medical treatment very well and say, I fully trust the doctor. But if in the middle of the treatment he stops following the indications, it does not reach the final result. With Jesus, Jehovah and his Word the Bible, something like that happens: we must have faith, yes, but also go ahead obeying and being faithful.

Marta (Person): I now see it much more balanced. Jesus is indispensable, but it is not enough to mention it.

Elena (Publisher): That’s right. We never downplay Jesus. On the contrary, we recognize that without their sacrifice no one could be saved. But we also recognize what the Bible teaches: that Jehovah is the Author of that purpose of salvation, gave his Son for all mankind, what a great sacrifice for a loving Father like him, so he asks us that people have exact knowledge of the truth, that we respond with faith, obedience and endure.

Marta (Person): I like that this is why all the parts fit in: Jehovah, Jesus and the Bible.

Elena (Publisher): Yes, exactly. And remember a detail that sometimes goes unnoticed: when he talks about The word of Jehovah.He also clarifies that the name of God is Jehovah. So the biblical teaching on salvation revolves not only around accepting Jesus, but also knowing his Father and what he asks of us. Believing in Jesus is essential, but true faith is accompanied by knowledge, obedience and perseverance. And we learn all this thanks to the Word of Jehovah.

Marta (Person): I do find it much clearer now.

Elena (Publisher): I’m glad. Sometimes a single sentence sounds good, but when we look at everything the Bible says, we better understand the full picture.
