Elena (Publisher): Exactly. And I like it very much because it makes God not look so far away. It’s not the same to talk about someone saying just a person, what’s knowing what his name is. When we know someone’s name, we feel we can get closer. Well, something like that happens to God.

Marta (Person): Seen like this, it makes sense, how interesting.

Elena (Publisher): In addition, the Bible does not mention that name once by chance. It presents it as something important, because Jehovah wants people to really know him, not just that he believes it exists. And when a person discovers that, many times he starts reading the Bible differently.

Marta (Person): The truth is that I had never thought of it like this.

Elena (Publisher): It’s normal. These are details that sometimes you don’t hear much. But they are beautiful, because they help to see that God is not impersonal. He has a name, he’s got purpose and he wants us to know him.

Marta (Person): Well, I found it quite interesting, I didn’t expect it.

Marta (Person): Well… yeah, the truth is, I don’t have the best day today.

Elena (Publisher): I’m sorry. Sometimes you try to keep everything, but you carry something inside. That’s precisely why we’re sharing an idea of the Bible that has helped a lot of people a lot when they’ve had problems with someone or have felt hurt.

Marta (Person): Yeah, that’s quite a bit.

Elena (Publisher): Claro. And in those cases, Jesus gave advice that remains very practical. Look what he said in Matthew 6:14 and 15 , “For if you forgive your trespasses, your heavenly Father will forgive you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive your offenses to others, your Father will not forgive your offenses either.

Marta (Person): It’s a very powerful tip.

Elena (Publisher): It is. But it’s also very realistic. Jesus was a great teacher, because he did not give nice advice just to sound good. He knew how we are and knew that keeping resentment weighs a lot. Sometimes the other person doesn’t even know how much damage he did, but one keeps carrying that.

Marta (Person): That’s true. The one who stays around is one.

Elena (Publisher): Exactly. And forgiveness doesn’t always mean that what happened doesn’t matter or that it’s easy to forget. But it can mean stopping continuing to feed that pain. And there the advice of Jesus works. It helps to have peace and not get stuck in what happened.

Marta (Person): I’ve never thought of it like that.

Elena (Publisher): That’s why she is so impressed to see that her words are still useful today. Even if centuries have passed, their advice continues to work in daily life, in the family, at work, with friends… in everything.

Marta (Person): It can be interesting to reflect on how it helps us.

Brothers, when we think about studying, perhaps the first thing that comes to mind is a very practical thing: to sit down, open the Bible, to have the publication, a pen and perhaps a notebook. And that’s all very good. But the important question is not only what we have before us, but how we study. Because a person can devote time to the study and, still, not get the most out of it. That’s why we should ask ourselves: what makes the studio really useful?

The answer looks very good in the example of Ezra. In Ezra 7:10 We are told that he had prepared his heart, to consult the law of Jehovah, to do it and to teach it. Let us look at that expression: he prepared his heart. He doesn’t just say he prepared his rolls, his material or his mind. He prepared his heart. So the good study starts even before you read the front line.

And that brings us to the first main point: to study well, you have to have the right attitude. How did we achieve that attitude? An essential help is prayer. Before we begin to study, we do very well to ask Jehovah for his holy spirit. We can beg you to help us understand what we’re going to read, to grasp how it relates to your purpose and to see how to apply it in our lives. We can also ask you to help us examine ourselves honestly. Maybe what we study plays a goal, a decision, an attitude or a way of thinking we should adjust. When we start like this, the study ceases to be a routine and becomes something spiritual. We’re not just looking for information anymore. We are letting Jehovah teach us.

In addition, preparing the heart involves studying with humility. We don’t approach the Bible to discuss it or to find it wrong. We are approaching with confidence in Jehovah. That’s why, when we don’t quite understand, we don’t think right away that there’s a mistake. Rather, we wait in Jehovah, we continue to investigate and leave room for understanding to be clarified over time. That humble attitude is very important. Without it, one can study a lot and learn little. With her, on the other hand, even a brief study session can bring us very close to Jehovah.

However, in addition to a good attitude, a good method is also needed. And here is the second main point: to study well, we must highlight the main ideas. Sometimes you start with the first paragraph and continue to the end without stopping to think about the overall thread of the subject. But that’s not always the best. Before going into the details, a general idea should be given. Look at the title, look at the subtitles, observe the illustrations or the boxes and ask: What am I going to learn? What’s this gonna do to me? That first glance already guides the mind a lot.

Then, as we read, it is important to locate the fundamental ideas. If the publication has questions, it is useful to consciously search for the answers. And if he doesn’t have them, we can still ask ourselves: What is the main idea here? That helps us not to miss out on side details. It is also very useful to look for the biblical texts that appear and see how they support what is being said. Because our goal is not only to understand the comment, but to verify for ourselves what the Word of God teaches.

Sometimes, while we study, a doubt arises or a point appears that we would like to investigate further. What do we do? You don’t always have to stop the whole studio right there. A lot of times it’s best to score and move on. Maybe later the same material will clarify. And if not, we can investigate it later calmly. That’s also studying well, because it helps us not to lose the main thread.

In this sense, the example of the Apostle Paul is very interesting. In his letter to the Hebrews, after developing several profound ideas, he paused and said, “This is the main point.” What a great way to teach. Paul knew that his readers needed to see clearly the central idea. It wasn’t enough to give much information. The essentials had to be highlighted. Well, we must do that when we study too. Occasionally it is advisable to ask us: “Let’s see, what is here the main thing?” When we do that, we retain information better and better understand why it matters.

But there is still a third main point, and it is very important: the study should prompt us to act. That’s the great proof that we’re studying well. When we finish a study session, we should ask ourselves: What effect should this have on me? What should change in my attitude? How can I put this into practice in my family, in the congregation or in the ministry? Because Christian study has never been just to accumulate knowledge. Jehovah teaches us to mold us, to help us make good decisions and to make us stronger spiritually.

For example, if we study prayer, it is not enough to think: What a beautiful topic. We should ask ourselves whether we are praying more sincerely, more often or more confidently. If we study patience, we should think about who we need to be more patient with. If we look at the ministry, we should ask ourselves what point we could use this week to encourage someone. That’s when the study ceases to be theoretical and becomes something alive.

And there is a final help that we must not overlook: in the end, it is advisable to do a brief review. It doesn’t have to be long. Just remember the main points and the reasons that support them. That better sets the information in memory and makes it easier to use in the future.So, brothers, if we had to summarize how to study, we could say so: first, let’s prepare the heart; second, let’s focus on the main points; and third, let’s let the study drive us to act. If we study that way, the study will not be a simple task. It will be an opportunity to get closer to Jehovah, to better understand his Word and to allow that Word to change us within. And that, no doubt, is the kind of study that benefits us most.
