Theme: “Young Ones, Trust the Bible’s Advice”

Your classmates make fun of you because you are different

Comment 1:
The example of Daniel and his three friends can help me. They lived in an environment where many did not worship Jehovah, but they did not stop being different. That teaches me that I do not have to be ashamed of obeying Jehovah, even if others do not understand my decisions.

Comment 2:
It also helps me to remember Genesis 3:1. Satan tried to make Eve doubt what Jehovah had said. Today he can use ridicule or pressure to make a young person think that obeying Jehovah is not worth it. Knowing that helps me not to be deceived.

The example of Jesus also encourages me. Many people made fun of him, but he did not change the way he acted just to please others. If my classmates make fun of me because I am different, I can remember that the most important thing is to please Jehovah, not to fit in at any cost.

Romans 12:2 can help me, since it says that we should not be molded by this system. At school everyone may think the same way or do the same things, but a young Christian needs courage to be different. Jehovah greatly values that faithfulness.

It also encourages me to think about Noah. The people of his day did not take his message seriously, but he kept obeying Jehovah. If others make fun of me, I can remember that being on Jehovah’s side is always the wisest course, even if the majority think differently.

There is no one your age in the congregation who could be your friend

The example of Ruth and Naomi, mentioned in the video, can help me. They were different in age and culture, but they became true friends. That teaches me that a good friendship does not depend only on being the same age.

Ruth was a generous and understanding friend. She did not abandon Naomi during difficult times; rather, she cared for her and for her feelings. That example helps me to look for spiritual friends because of their qualities, not just because they are young like me.

Proverbs 17:17 can also help me, since it says that a true friend shows love at all times. In the congregation there may be older brothers, married couples, or families who love me and encourage me. Even though they are not my age, they can be a great spiritual help.

I can think about Timothy and Paul. Although they were different ages, Paul was like a spiritual father to Timothy. That teaches me that I can approach mature brothers and learn a lot from them, even if they are not of my generation.

The video says that the Bible talks about real people who overcame real problems. So if I feel lonely, I can look in the Bible for examples that encourage me and also look around the congregation to see who could be a good spiritual friend for me.

A classmate wants to be your friend and to communicate with you by phone or on social media

1 Corinthians 15:33 can help me, since it reminds us that bad associations spoil useful habits. That does not mean that I should treat my classmate badly, but I do need to think about whether that friendship and that communication will draw me closer to Jehovah or pull me away from him.

Genesis 3:1 also helps me. Satan did not approach Eve in an obvious way but with a conversation that seemed harmless. That teaches me that some influences can start out simply, through messages or social media, and end up affecting the way I think.

The example of Joseph can help me. The video mentions that Joseph knew how to stand up for himself and say no when he was pressured to have sex. If a friendship starts to head in a dangerous direction, I can set limits and act decisively.

Proverbs 13:20 can help me, since it teaches that the one walking with the wise will become wise. Before accepting a lot of communication with someone, I can ask myself: “Does this person respect my beliefs? Does he encourage me to do what is right?” That helps me to choose my friends well.

I can also remember that not every friendship has to be a close one. I can be kind to a classmate without giving him constant access to my life by phone or on social media. The Bible helps me to be balanced and to protect my heart.

You want to serve Jehovah full-time after you graduate, but a teacher tells you that this is a waste of time

Matthew 6:33 can help me, since it encourages us to put the Kingdom first. Although a teacher may place more value on a career or on material success, I can remember that serving Jehovah is a worthwhile goal and that Jehovah knows what kind of life will really make me happy.

Isaiah 48:17, mentioned in the video, also helps me. Jehovah is the One who teaches us for our own good. His advice never goes out of date. So even if other people do not understand my spiritual goals, I can trust that Jehovah is guiding me in the best way.

The example of Moses encourages me. He could have pursued a comfortable life in Egypt, but he chose to serve Jehovah. That teaches me that the opportunities of this world may look attractive, but nothing compares with devoting your life to doing God’s will.

I can also think about Timothy. From a young age he let the Scriptures guide him, and he became very useful in Jehovah’s service. If I want to serve full-time, I should not let negative comments quench my desire to give Jehovah my best.

The video says that there are millions of people giving advice about anything and everything. So I have to choose carefully whom I listen to. A teacher may have good intentions, but Jehovah is my Creator, and his advice always helps me to have the best possible life.

Question: What lessons do you learn from this video?

I learn that there are a great many people giving advice about every subject, but not all of that advice is good. The video asks what we can do to get away from all that noise. The answer is to turn to the Bible, because it contains the advice of our Creator.

The video teaches that even though the Bible was written thousands of years ago, its advice never goes out of date. It is full of principles, that is, fundamental truths that help us to make good decisions and to handle life’s problems.

The example of Ruth caught my attention. The video says that she was a generous and understanding friend and that she did not abandon Naomi during difficult times. That teaches me that the Bible can help me even when I find it hard to make true friends.

We also learn that the Bible contains examples for real problems. The video mentions Jacob, who resolved misunderstandings in his family, and Joseph, who knew how to say no when he was pressured to have sex. That shows that the Bible is very practical for young people.

Challenge: “A chapter a day!”

I can set the goal of reading one chapter of the Bible each day and doing some research on something that caught my attention. This challenge will help me to fill my mind with Jehovah’s thoughts, to think more like Jesus, and to be prepared to make good decisions when trials or pressures come up.
