It is true that we organize this celebration, but the way it is carried out is according to what the Bible tells us. In Luke 22:19, we can find that Jesus commanded us to remember this Memorial, notice what it says at the last part: ‘Do this in remembrance of me.’

It was the command he gave to his disciples at what is known as the Last Supper, right?

And among all the things I liked, one that caught my attention the most is the religious devotion the people of that society have. It is very striking how important the presence of something higher is in their lives. Well, you must feel something similar, right?

I saw that you visited several temples and I imagined that you might have thought something like that, and that is why I was excited to invite you to the Memorial of Christ’s death. Do you remember that last year I invited you but you couldn’t attend? As a Jehovah’s Witness, we put God first in our lives, and we study the Bible as you know well, trying to apply biblical teachings to our lives. But so far we have talked about God, what about His Son Jesus? Do you remember the sacrifice He made for us, right?
Person:
Yes, he did very good things for the people of that time, and yet they nailed him to a board.
Publisher:
But not only for the people of his time, but for all humanity. In Colossians 1:14, which I will read to you directly from the Bible, it says that Jesus died so that we could have the forgiveness of our sins. Look: “in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Can you imagine giving your life so that another person can be saved?
Person:
Without a doubt, it is an act of great love. Only very special relationships, like parents for their children, would go that far, don’t you think, Elena?

Well, with even more reason, we should at least remember through the Commemoration of Christ’s death the sacrifice that Jesus, and his Father, God, made for all of us. For the benefit of us and our families, and our children. For the future of humanity. In this special celebration, a Bible talk is given that analyzes all of this and emblems are passed that represent the flesh and blood of Jesus. Yes, in Luke 22:19 Jesus tells us: “Do this in remembrance of me.” Although this text does not specifically say it is once a year, the Bible teaches us that when Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper, it was celebrated on the same day as the Jewish Passover, and this was celebrated once a year. In the Commemoration of Christ’s death we remember the importance of Jesus’ sacrifice and its benefits to all humanity.

I understand you perfectly, Elena. You give me solid arguments, and I think it’s very good that you have your beliefs, and this firmness in God. And I have no problem being flexible. Did you see how fast time flies? This year you have seen some teachings that the Bible gives, and in some conversations we have gone deeper into some topics. I would like for you to come to the Memorial this year, and then we could study these biblical teachings more regularly and deeply.
Person:
You know, Elena, that last year my husband was not very receptive to going to the Memorial, and eventually he went. He had a positive impression, and during this year he has read some articles that you have left with me. I think there is something in him that is changing since he met God with you. You know that my family is a very important piece for me; if I study the Bible, I cannot distance myself from my family, my husband also has to agree, for our children.
Publisher:
These words you are telling me reflect a committed mother who is aware of the importance of family and her faith in God. Jehovah instituted marriage as a sacred union, which must never be broken, so it is completely legitimate for your husband to also study the Bible or for you to feel that concern of distancing yourself from him if you start studying the Bible, and that it affects your young children.

Look Marta, we have many sisters who currently serve God as Jehovah’s Witnesses whose spouse was not a Jehovah’s Witness at the beginning. In fact, some sisters started studying the Bible, and then their husband did too after seeing the changes in dressing of the new personality that God teaches us. What do you think if, on the day of the Memorial, I come with my husband, we pick you up and go together in our car? After the Memorial, we visit you, I come with my husband, and we talk a little about God and about studying the Bible.
