Never Forget What Jehovah Remembers

What lessons do we learn from this video?

Comment 1: Jehovah keeps our limitations in mind. He not only knows that we are imperfect; that affects how he treats us. When we repent, he wants to forgive us. Remembering this helps us draw close to him with confidence, even after making a mistake.

Comment 2: I was struck by the comparison of Jehovah’s loyal love to a large house, where mercy and forgiveness are spacious rooms. This helps us see that his forgiveness is not something separate from his love. Jehovah loves his servants dearly, and his mercy moves him to forgive them when they repent.

Comment 3: The example of the brother who sprains his ankle is very clear. No one would expect him to keep playing as if nothing had happened. We should do something similar with the limitations caused by imperfection: adjust our expectations. If we remember that our brothers have weaknesses, it will be easier for us to treat them kindly when they make mistakes.

Comment 4: When something a brother says or does greatly annoys us, it is wise to pause before reacting. We can consider whether we are taking into account that he is imperfect, just as we are. That pause can help us adjust what we expect from him and respond with mercy instead of allowing ourselves to be carried away by anger.

Comment 5: Forgiveness directly contributes to the peace and unity of the congregation. If we keep the limitations of others in mind, it will be easier for us not to hold a grudge. In this way, we imitate Jehovah and strengthen our brothers.

Comment 6: At times, a brother may continue to feel guilty about past mistakes even though he has repented. We can help him remember how Jehovah views him: Jehovah knows his weaknesses and wants to forgive him. It is not simply a matter of telling him to stop feeling bad, but of helping him understand why he can trust in Jehovah’s mercy.

Comment 7: The comparison between east and west highlights the extent of Jehovah’s forgiveness. They are opposite directions that never meet. This helps us understand that when Jehovah forgives a sin, he does not keep it in mind to reproach us with it later. This assurance can greatly relieve someone who continues to suffer because of past mistakes.

Comment 8: Something that helps me is to remember that I should not keep bringing up what Jehovah has already forgiven. This applies both to my own mistakes and to those of others. If Jehovah does not reproach us again for those sins, imitating him means not using them as a reproach. In this way, we can lighten burdens instead of adding to them.
