Let Us Trust That Jehovah Will Protect Us
1, 2. What shocking events will happen soon?
Answer 1: Soon the governments will give their authority to the United Nations, represented by the wild beast. Then this organization, with the support of the governments, will destroy the world’s false religious organizations. That event will mark the beginning of the great tribulation. So we are talking about changes that will affect the entire world, not about events of little importance.
Revelation 17:17 — For God put it into their hearts to carry out his thought, yes, to carry out their one thought by giving their kingdom to the wild beast, until the words of God will have been accomplished.
Answer 2: This verse highlights that Jehovah will cause the governments to carry out his purpose. Although they will give their authority to the wild beast, they will not act outside what God has announced. Knowing this helps us look at future events with confidence, without allowing uncertainty to dominate us.
Answer 3: One shocking detail is that the false religious organizations will not gradually disappear; rather, they will be destroyed by the wild beast with the backing of the governments. The article connects that destruction with the beginning of the great tribulation. Understanding this sequence helps us keep in mind what Jehovah has revealed, without adding speculation about details that have not been explained to us.
3. What will we consider in this article?
Answer 1: The article begins by examining Psalm 91 and then answers three questions: What kind of protection does Jehovah promise? How does he protect us today? And how will he protect us in the future? This order helps us first understand his promise and then see how it benefits us. The goal is to strengthen our trust in Jehovah so that we do not fear Armageddon.
Psalms 91:7 — A thousand will fall at your side And ten thousand at your right hand, But to you it will not come near.
Answer 2: This promise gives us a reason not to live in fear of the destruction of Satan’s world. The article will help us understand what the protection described in the psalm means. It is not simply a matter of feeling calmer, but of basing our trust on what Jehovah has promised and understanding how he cares for us now and will care for us afterward.
Answer 3: We will see that Jehovah’s protection is not only a matter for the future. The article also invites us to recognize the help we already receive from him. This is very encouraging, because when we understand how he is caring for us today, we have more reason to trust that he will fulfill his promises when the events we are still awaiting take place.
4. What assurance do we find at Psalm 91:1, 2?
Psalms 91:1-2 — Anyone dwelling in the secret place of the Most High Will lodge under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to Jehovah: “You are my refuge and my stronghold, My God in whom I trust.”
Answer 1: These verses assure us that Jehovah protects those who trust in him. The psalmist’s security does not depend on the absence of dangers, but on having Jehovah as his protector. This encourages us to cultivate personal trust in him and to seek his help instead of thinking that we must face difficulties alone.
Answer 2: The words used by the psalmist make us think of a walled city. Its inhabitants were protected inside its walls, and those outside could enter to find safety. This comparison helps us understand that Jehovah offers security to those who turn to him. Therefore, trusting in Jehovah means seeking his protection and staying close to him.
Answer 3: The image of being under the wings of the Most High is also very comforting. It conveys not only power but also care and closeness. The psalmist wants us to be sure that Jehovah can protect his servants from any danger. When we feel vulnerable, remembering these comparisons can help us turn to him with confidence and not feel abandoned.
5, 6. What does Psalm 91:14-16 promise us, and why can we trust that promise?
Psalms 91:14-16 — God said: “Because he has affection for me, I will rescue him. I will protect him because he knows my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in distress. I will rescue him and glorify him. I will satisfy him with long life, And I will cause him to see my acts of salvation.”
Answer 1: Here Jehovah himself promises to protect those who love him, know his name, and call on him. His promise includes being with them during distress. Therefore, experiencing difficulties does not mean that Jehovah has abandoned us.
Answer 2: We can trust Jehovah because he always fulfills what he promises. The article reminds us that Joshua confirmed that not one of God’s good promises had failed. Our security, therefore, is not based on merely wishing that everything will turn out well. It is based on the faithfulness Jehovah has already demonstrated, giving us solid reasons to keep trusting him.
Answer 3: I am struck by the fact that at the end of the psalm, it is no longer the psalmist speaking about Jehovah; instead, Jehovah addresses his servants. This gives the promise special force. Love for God, knowledge of his name, and calling on him are also mentioned. This encourages us to keep strengthening our friendship with Jehovah and to seek him in prayer when we need help.
7. What kind of protection does Psalm 91 promise?
Answer 1: Psalm 91 promises spiritual, emotional, and physical protection. Jehovah gives us what we need to care for our friendship with him, helps us maintain inner peace, and will not allow his enemies to eliminate his people as a group. Thus, his protection covers different aspects of our life, although it does not mean that each of us is now free from every form of suffering.
Answer 2: A fundamental aspect is spiritual protection. Jehovah knows that our friendship with him is very valuable and provides help to defend it from anything that could endanger it. This reminds us that when asking for protection, we should not think only of physical safety. We also need to make use of what Jehovah gives us to stay close to him and remain faithful.
Answer 3: The paragraph broadens our understanding of the psalm by explaining that it also includes emotional and physical protection. Our enemies will not succeed in taking away our inner peace or making Jehovah’s people disappear. This gives us a balanced perspective: we recognize that real trials exist, but we do not think that God’s enemies can accomplish everything they intend against his servants.
8, 9. What did Jesus say to Satan when he tempted him, and what do we learn? (Matthew 4:5-7)
Matthew 4:5-7 — Then the Devil took him along into the holy city, and he stationed him on the battlement of the temple and said to him: “If you are a son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written: ‘He will give his angels a command concerning you,’ and, ‘They will carry you on their hands, so that you may not strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus said to him: “Again it is written: ‘You must not put Jehovah your God to the test.’”
Answer 1: Jesus refused to put Jehovah to the test. We learn that trusting in his protection does not justify deliberately exposing ourselves to danger.
Answer 2: Jesus did not say that Psalm 91 excluded physical protection. What he rejected was the idea of acting recklessly and expecting Jehovah to save him. That distinction is important. Satan was misapplying the psalm to induce Jesus to do something dangerous. We too must distinguish between truly trusting Jehovah and demanding that he protect us from risks we have unnecessarily sought.
Answer 3: Jesus knew that Jehovah had used angels to protect his servants physically. But knowing those accounts did not lead him to think that he could endanger himself to prove that his Father cared for him. His attitude teaches us to combine trust with prudence. We can be sure of Jehovah’s protective power without trying to force him to intervene in a particular way.
10. Of what are we convinced?
Answer 1: We are convinced that Jehovah protects those who trust in him. Therefore, when thinking about the destruction of Satan’s world, we do not need to let fear dominate us. Our confidence is not based on our ability to face whatever may come, but on having a powerful and faithful God who has promised to care for his servants.
Answer 2: We are certain that the promise of Psalm 91 is completely trustworthy. Jehovah is not merely a figurative refuge, like an idea that comforts us, but someone who can truly protect his people. Keeping this in mind helps us focus our attention on him rather than concentrating only on dangers that may arise.
Answer 3: It convinces us to know that Jehovah’s protection relates both to the present and to the future. We are not waiting helplessly for Armageddon to arrive. Jehovah is already caring for us. Recognizing that present protection strengthens our trust and prepares us to look ahead calmly, confident that he will continue to be the best refuge for his servants.
11. How does Jehovah protect us spiritually?
Answer 1: Jehovah protects us by giving us what we need to face anything that threatens our friendship with him. He understands our imperfection and the struggle we wage against sin. Therefore, he does not merely tell us to resist; he offers us help. The following paragraphs show three means of protection: his Word, his holy spirit, and his organization.
Romans 6:16 — Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey, either of sin leading to death or of obedience leading to righteousness?
Answer 2: Paul shows that whom we obey matters greatly. Jehovah understands the power sin can exert over us and helps us not to submit to it. His spiritual protection does not eliminate our responsibility to choose, but it provides what we need to make good decisions and defend our friendship with him.
Answer 3: I am encouraged that Jehovah understands our inner struggle so well. The paragraph reminds us that even Paul felt the conflict between wanting to do what is right and the influence of sin. So having to struggle does not mean that Jehovah has left us alone. What matters is recognizing that we need his help and using the help he makes available.
12, 13. How can we overcome wrong desires? (Matthew 5:28, 29)
Answer 1: We can overcome them by obeying Jesus’ counsel and decisively removing what feeds those desires. It is not enough to resolve to avoid immorality if we continue looking at images that awaken passion. We must act before the desire becomes stronger. Although cutting off such influences requires effort, protecting our friendship with Jehovah is worth whatever changes are necessary.
James 1:14-15 — But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn sin, when it has been carried out, brings forth death.
Answer 2: James explains that a desire that is fed can lead to sin. Therefore, Jesus’ counsel is preventive: we must cut off what awakens passion before it sweeps us away. The Bible not only identifies wrong conduct; it also helps us recognize how it begins and what we must combat to protect our friendship with Jehovah.
Answer 3: The article compares immoral images to a tumor that must be removed. This comparison emphasizes that we cannot treat as harmless what is damaging our heart. The solution requires firm measures, not small concessions to wrong desire. Applying Jesus’ counsel shows that we value our relationship with Jehovah more than any momentary satisfaction that could draw us away from him.
14. How does holy spirit protect us?
Galatians 5:16 — But I say, Keep walking by spirit and you will carry out no fleshly desire at all.
Answer 1: Holy spirit helps us resist wrong desires and do what is right. Walking in harmony with it means seeking its guidance and allowing it to influence our thinking and actions. Thus, in addition to asking for it, we must respond to that help by rejecting wrong thoughts instead of continuing to dwell on them until they become stronger.
Answer 2: An important detail is that holy spirit does not automatically eliminate our wrong desires. Rather, it gives us greater willpower to resist them. This helps us not to become discouraged if we must continue struggling. The presence of an improper desire does not mean that Jehovah’s help has failed; we need to keep asking for his spirit and act in harmony with its guidance.
Answer 3: Jehovah wants us to ask him constantly for holy spirit. Jesus assured us that our Father gives it to those who ask him. This promise encourages us to pray with confidence, recognizing that we need more strength than we have on our own. At the same time, we cooperate with that help by immediately rejecting wrong desires and allowing Jehovah’s guidance to influence our decisions.
15. How does Jehovah’s organization protect us? (See also the pictures.)
Answer 1: Jehovah’s organization provides spiritual food that counteracts negative thoughts and feelings. At times, guilt, feelings of worthlessness, or anxiety can weaken us. The publications remind us that Jehovah forgives, that we are valuable to him, and that we can trust his care. In this way, they help prevent Satan from using such feelings to draw us away from our Father.
Psalms 86:5 — For you, O Jehovah, are good and ready to forgive; You abound in loyal love for all those who call on you.
Answer 2: This text is one of the truths our publications help us keep in mind. When we feel overwhelmed by past mistakes, we need to remember Jehovah’s willingness to forgive. Spiritual food helps us avoid judging our relationship with him solely by how we feel and instead base it on what he himself teaches us about his goodness and loyal love.
Answer 3: The pictures show a sister studying the book “Be Courageous in Your Walk With God” and watching a JW Broadcasting program with her husband and daughter. They illustrate ways to benefit from spiritual food personally and as a family. It is not enough for that food to be available; taking time to receive it allows its reminders to reach the heart and strengthen our friendship with Jehovah.
16. What has Jehovah allowed, and of what are we sure?
Answer 1: Jehovah has allowed some of his servants to suffer persecution and even die. Their faithfulness proves that the Devil is a liar. However, this does not mean that Satan can wipe out all of God’s people. We are sure that Jehovah protects his servants as a group and will not allow pure worship to disappear from the earth.
Revelation 6:9 — When he opened the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those slaughtered because of the word of God and because of the witness they had given.
Answer 2: This passage acknowledges that some servants of God have died because of their faithfulness. Therefore, we should not interpret a death caused by persecution as proof that Jehovah was not caring for that person. The paragraph distinguishes between what some servants may suffer individually and the guarantee that enemies will never eliminate all of Jehovah’s people.
Answer 3: It gives us great confidence to know that Jehovah is using the angels to protect his people as a whole. Satan would like no faithful servant to remain, but he will not achieve that goal. This certainty does not minimize the suffering of our brothers and sisters. Rather, it helps us see that no matter how intense the opposition, pure worship will continue to exist on earth.
17. Why do we not expect Jehovah to protect us now from everything that could cause us physical harm?
Job 1:10-11 — Have you not put up a protective hedge around him and his house and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock has spread out in the land. But, for a change, stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your very face.”
Answer 1: Satan accused Job of serving God because of the protection he received. If Jehovah were to spare us now from all harm, the Devil would continue using that lie. Our loyalty during trials proves that we love Jehovah, not merely the benefits of serving him.
Answer 2: Obeying Jehovah’s standards does protect us from many harmful practices and situations. But that protection is not a guarantee that we will never suffer physical harm. The paragraph helps us maintain balance: we should act prudently and watch our conduct, without thinking that being close to Jehovah makes us immune to every difficulty in this world.
Answer 3: Jehovah has patiently tolerated attacks against his servants, but he will not do so indefinitely. In the meantime, he helps us remain loyal, and our endurance contributes to the sanctification of his name. So when a trial does not disappear immediately, we should not conclude that he has abandoned us. We can seek his help to endure it without losing what is most valuable—our friendship with him.
18. How will Jehovah protect us in the future?
Answer 1: During the great tribulation, Jehovah will continue caring for his people spiritually. And when the nations attack his servants, he will not allow them to eliminate them as a group. That attack will trigger Armageddon, when he will send Jesus Christ and his heavenly army against his enemies. Thus, the intensity of the attack will not mean that Jehovah has lost control of the situation.
Revelation 19:11 — I saw heaven opened, and look! a white horse. And the one seated on it is called Faithful and True, and he judges and carries on war in righteousness.
Answer 2: The description of Jesus gives us confidence in how divine intervention will take place. Jehovah will not leave the defense of his people in the hands of someone incapable or unjust. He will send Jesus Christ with his heavenly army. Therefore, when thinking about the attack by the nations, we should also remember who will act to defend God’s servants.
Answer 3: The paragraph emphasizes that spiritual protection will continue during the great tribulation. This is important because our relationship with Jehovah will remain essential at that time. It also assures us that the nations will not be able to wipe out his people. Both ideas help us look to the future with confidence: Jehovah will continue caring for his servants’ faith and will act against those who want to destroy them.
19, 20. Why should we not be afraid when thinking about the war of Armageddon? (See also the picture.)
Answer 1: We should not be afraid because Jehovah will protect his servants. The article assures us that during Armageddon, none of them will lose their life at the hands of their enemies, whether human or demonic. Once that war begins, we can expect physical, emotional, and spiritual protection, both as a group and individually. Our peace is based on that promise, not on our own ability to defend ourselves.
2 Peter 2:9 — So, then, Jehovah knows how to rescue people of godly devotion out of trial, but to reserve unrighteous people to be destroyed on the day of judgment,
Answer 2: This verse reminds us that Jehovah knows how to rescue those devoted to him. We do not need to know every detail of how he will do so in order to trust him. When thinking about Armageddon, we can focus on Jehovah’s ability to protect his servants instead of imagining ourselves helpless before the strength of our enemies.
Answer 3: The picture of a mother with her two children surrounded by an angel’s protection illustrates the security Jehovah will provide. It helps us think about his care, not only about the dangers. In addition, the article says that the words of Psalm 91:7-9 may be fulfilled literally during Armageddon. That possibility strengthens our confidence without leading us to assert details that have not been revealed.
What kind of protection does Psalm 91 promise?
Answer 1: It promises spiritual, emotional, and physical protection. Jehovah provides what we need to care for our friendship with him, maintain inner peace, and continue existing as a people. We should not reduce the promise to just one aspect. At the same time, we remember that this protection does not mean that every servant of God is currently free from illness, persecution, or any other physical harm.
Psalms 91:11-12 — For he will give his angels a command concerning you, To guard you in all your ways. They will carry you on their hands, So that you may not strike your foot against a stone.
Answer 2: These verses help us understand that the psalm also includes physical protection. When Satan used them to tempt Jesus, the problem was not that they spoke of such protection, but that he wanted to induce Jesus to put himself in danger. Jesus taught us that we can trust Jehovah’s care without demanding a miraculous intervention through reckless conduct.
Answer 3: The psalm assures us that Jehovah can care for his servants completely. This allows us to trust both his power and his interest in us. The practical lesson is to turn to him and make use of his protection, not put it to the test. Like Jesus, we demonstrate trust when we act in harmony with Jehovah’s will rather than unnecessarily exposing ourselves to danger.
How does Jehovah protect us now?
Answer 1: Jehovah protects us spiritually through his Word, his holy spirit, and his organization. The Bible teaches us to combat wrong desires; the spirit strengthens us to resist them, and spiritual food helps us fight feelings that could draw us away from God. Our part is to make use of these provisions, not merely to know that they are available.
Proverbs 22:3 — The shrewd one sees the danger and conceals himself, But the inexperienced keep right on going and suffer the consequences.
Answer 2: This counsel shows one way Jehovah protects us physically now: his standards teach us to recognize dangers and avoid them. Obeying them spares us many harmful situations. However, we do not expect to be free from all harm. Prudence and obedience benefit us, but our faithfulness to Jehovah does not depend on having a life without difficulties.
Answer 3: Jehovah also protects his people as a group so that pure worship will not disappear from the earth. Although he allows some servants to suffer persecution, Satan will never succeed in eliminating all faithful worshippers. Individually, Jehovah helps us endure trials without losing our friendship with him. That help is a real expression of his protection, even when the difficulty continues.
How will Jehovah protect us in the future?
Answer 1: During the great tribulation, Jehovah will continue protecting his people spiritually and will not allow the nations to eliminate them as a group. When Armageddon arrives, Jesus Christ and his heavenly army will act against God’s enemies. Thus, the future of pure worship does not depend on the goodwill of the governments, but on the protection Jehovah has promised to provide.
Luke 21:28 — But as these things start to occur, stand up straight and lift up your heads, because your deliverance is getting near.”
Answer 2: Jesus encourages us to relate those events to our deliverance, not only to danger. During Armageddon, Jehovah will protect his servants physically, emotionally, and spiritually, both as a group and individually. Remembering that promise helps us look to the future with hope and strengthen even now our trust in our Father’s care.
Answer 3: The article distinguishes between what Jehovah allows now and what he will do during Armageddon. At present, some of his servants may die at the hands of their enemies. But during that war, none will lose their life at their hands. Keeping this difference clear strengthens our trust: Jehovah’s patience with the wicked has a limit, and he will fulfill his promise to protect his servants.
