“Who Touched Me?”

What can we do to allow others to influence us in a positive way?

Comment 1: We can look beyond first impressions. Sometimes someone may seem distracted, quiet, or distant, but perhaps he or she is facing a very difficult burden. If we do not rush to judge, we will be more willing to learn from that person’s endurance and faith.

Comment 2: It helps us to take time to get to know the brothers and sisters. A brief conversation in the hallway, a message, or a comment may reveal an experience that strengthens us. Each brother or sister has a story, and listening with interest can leave a very beautiful impression on us.

Comment 3: We need to allow good examples to reach our heart. Instead of thinking that only we can encourage others, we can humbly recognize that the faith, perseverance, and kindness of others can also teach us a great deal.

Comment 4: We can strive to see people as Jehovah sees them. Jesus did not remain on the surface; he wanted to know what they were going through and understand their feelings. That same attitude will help us value our brothers and sisters more.

Comment 5: One practical thing is to listen without immediately preparing a response. The woman was able to tell Jesus the whole truth. When we listen calmly and respectfully, we may come to understand an experience that helps us to be more compassionate and grateful.

Comment 6: It is also good to notice the examples of those who continue serving Jehovah despite health problems, limitations, or trials. Their presence at the meetings and their efforts may remind us that we are all striving to remain loyal.

Comment 7: We can ask questions with sincere interest, not out of curiosity. Asking how someone is doing, how he or she learned the truth, or what has helped that person endure may open the door for us to receive encouragement from that experience, while always respecting what the person wishes to share.

Comment 8: It is good to be willing to correct our conclusions. The speaker acknowledged that he had misjudged a brother who seemed disconnected. Learning about his situation completely changed the way he viewed him. This teaches us to be patient and humble.

Comment 9: At the end of the day, we could think about a conversation we had and ask ourselves what we learned from that person. In this way, we will not overlook the good effects that the brothers and sisters can have on us.

What can we do to leave a positive impression on the lives of others?

Comment 1: We can make others feel seen and valued. Jesus stopped and gave attention to that woman. At times, giving a brother or sister a few minutes of our undivided attention can make that person feel that he or she matters and is not alone.

Comment 2: Our words can leave a deep impression if they are kind and respectful. Jesus was not only interested in the woman but also spoke to her in a way that restored her dignity. We can strive to make our words strengthen the hearts of others.

Comment 3: One way to have a good influence is to listen to the whole story before offering an opinion. Perhaps we cannot solve someone’s problem, but we can show that we care about what he or she is going through and that we want to understand.

Comment 4: We can imitate Jesus by spending time with people of all kinds. He gave attention to young and old, rich and poor. If we include those who may go unnoticed, we show them that they have a valuable place in the congregation.

Comment 5: We also leave a good impression when we avoid judging by appearances. Instead of drawing conclusions from a gesture or a lack of comments, we can approach others with kindness. This may relieve a burden of which we were unaware.

Comment 6: We can give specific encouragement. Rather than simply saying, “It is good to see you,” perhaps we can mention that we appreciate the person’s effort, comment, or example. Specific words show that we have truly taken notice of the person.

Comment 7: Respecting the limits of others is also an expression of love. Some will feel comfortable sharing a lot, while others will be more reserved. We can show interest without pressuring them and appreciate anything they choose to share.

Comment 8: Our own faith can be a great source of encouragement. Even when we face difficulties, attending meetings, participating according to our circumstances, and maintaining a loyal attitude can strengthen those who observe us. We may not know how much good we are doing.

Comment 9: We can ask ourselves a simple question: “Whose life will I strive to touch?” If each day we look for an opportunity to listen, encourage, or show respect, we will better imitate the loving way Jesus treated people.
